Well I am thinking of leaving him in the hospital cause I can monitor his poopies.....LOL....if he goes in the big tank I may not see it...
it is still like a frayed string though, anyone know what this means????

No, I hate to say but thin stringy poop is not normal. Usually an indicator that the horse is not eating enough, or that he's stressed and not digesting properly. I remember reading that it may also be an indicator for parasites, but I'm not sure if I'm remembering that correctly.

Edit. Here it is, LOL. Not only was it a SWF thread, Lois, but it was one of YOUR SWF threads!
https://forums.saltwaterfish.com/t/339095/seahorse-poop-lol
That was Bigun and Skinny when I first got them :(
BUT the poop doesn't look like the one on the right either....picture the end of a piece of string...how it frays when you try to thread a needle......kinda reminds me of that
NO WAY I can get a picture
and it still does not tell me what to do :( Tomorrow is Tuesday...I can order something if I need to...I just don't know what else to do for him

Yeah, those were a good pair of ponies. I'm sorry, I wasn't trying to open an old wound! I just remembered the pictures from Cranberry were on that thread.
The poo think makes me wonder about parasites. As in, did he have an internal parasite infection that he's passing right now due to the medication. Just curious. You should definitely leave him in and monitor his feces for a bit more.
Since you don't see him eat much, I wonder if you could stimulate his appetite with some live mysids? That OTHER place has them in stock right now. If this was my horse, I'd keep him in QT and spend the extra money for some live mysids or tiny feeder shrimp to get his feeding response going. If the poo continued to be stringy after a week or so, I would consider a deworming regime as well.

Just in case you need it, here is the deworming protocol
Deworming is a 9 week process in a hospital tank. You will need live adult brine shrimp, praziquantel, fenbendazole, and metronidazole. A small handmixer or blender is helpful.
For the first 3 weeks, one day each week, feed two meals of adult brine shrimp gutloaded with fenbendazole to the seahorse(s).

  • Brand names=panacur, safe-guard

  • if using granules, thoroughly mix a 1 gram packet (1/4tsp) in one gallon of water.

  • if using 10% liquid solution, thoroughly mix 250mg (2mL or 1/2 tsp) in one gallon of water.

  • place one feeding worth of brine shrimp in the mixture and leave them for at least 2 hours.

  • add brine shrimp to the tank and observe to make sure the seahorse is eating them.
For the second 3 weeks, one day each week, feed two meals of adult brine shrimp gutloaded with metronidazole to the seahorse(s).

    • Brand names=Metro+, Metro-Pro, Metronidazole, Metro-MS, Flagyl

    • if using tablets, crush one tablet into a fine powder and thoroughly mix in one gallon of water.
if using powder, thoroughly mix 1/4 tsp in one gallon of water.
place one feeding worth of brine shrimp in the mixture and leave them for at least 2 hours.
add brine shrimp to the tank and observe to make sure the seahorse is eating them.
For the third period of 3 weeks, one day each week, feed two meals of adult brine shrimp gutloaded with praziquantel to the seahorse(s).
    Brand names=PraziPro, Praz-tastic, Praziquantel
Thoroughly mix 10mL (2 tsp) of praziquantel in one gallon of water.
place one feeding worth of brine shrimp in the mixture and leave them for at least 2 hours.
add brine shrimp to the tank and observe to make sure the seahorse is eating them.

The meds will supress eating. If you can get live brine or small ghost shrimp, you can gut load them and try feeding those. If you havent seen him eat in a while you might need to tub feed just to get him eating again. I know its a pain, but!!! you may need to

Bender77,
I just have to ask.... if you feed a critter live food long enough, will it get to the point that it's the only food they will eat? 9 weeks to get rid of worms by feeding live food only, made me wonder if it could untrain the horses from frozen food....

You only feed the medicated live food 1 day each week, both morning and night feeding. Then you feed frozen food the other days. Yes, I would think that they would go back on live food again if you feed it to them for nine weeks straight. I know I've given mine live mysis as an occasional treat and they loved them, but didn't stop eating frozen.
Of course, most of the time when you deworm, it's wild caught horses that haven't trained to frozen yet. Also tank raised horses should be dewormed, but I'm not sure if those come trained to frozen or not. I've bought all my guys from breeder so (knock on wood) I haven't had to go through the deworming process myself. I've thought about pipefish, so I've keep the protocol just in case.
Lois, ghost shrimp are fresh water. If you have a LFS that sells freshwater fish close you may be able to find them there. I think I've seen them at walmart from time to time. Where did you get your horses? Is there a chance they have internal parasites or could the stringy poo just be from not eating?

Sorry, my day has been crazy busy here. The deworming schedule bender posted is exactly what I used to deworm my wild caught girl. I don't REALLY think its necessary right yet, though. Feed the live mysids for a few weeks and monitor his feces during that time. If you want to, only feed the live food every couple days. I don't think you'll have much problem switching back to frozen after the horse is back in the display.
