Oh I love that back wall! What kind of horses were you planning to put in there?
Thanks!!! I still haven't figured out what horses would be perfect for the tank. I think I have some options since the tank is 24 inches deep. Anyone have any ideas? I want 1-2 pairs.

I forgot...how many gallons is that tank? Well...since I have had two types...Erectus and Kuda...
Erectus are more active compared to the Kuda horses. They were also pretty hardy, they survived my 4 day black out. The Kuda look better, which is just an opinion. They have a bigger head and the crown is very defined on them. They also get a few inches larger according to Seahorse source, Erectus reach 5 to 7 inches, and Kuda can reach 6 to 9.
According to all I have read, Kuda are more sensitive to water temp changes. LOL...Well this is just an observation on the four I have had...Erectus seem smarter, they learned really fast to go to the food dish...Kuda... not so bright, at least mine seem so. Maybe the erectus were just little piggies and followed the food better.
Oh and I think the baby Erectus would be easier to try and raise...Kuda fry are (Pelagic) not born fully developed like the Erectus (Benthic). I never tried to raise the babies.

It's a 30 gallon tank.
According to Seahorse source you would be able to keep two pairs...thier web site is kind of odd on the numbers. It says 25 to 30g to keep one pair, then 30 to 40 for two pairs......well you have 30g so get the two pairs..
I had 2 pairs in my 30g long so you should have no trouble at all. Have lots of hitches up mid-tank so they don't hang out in the bottom all the time.

I would say it's a matter of filtration, not swimming space, for your tank. You'll need to make sure you've got a good filter set up if you want to keep 4 horses. Trust me, I have 4 in my 37 and I could "fit" more, but my filter is pretty much maxed out with 4 horses + 2 fish.
Just MHO...

No kidding my 56g looks like crap. Partly because these guys will not feed from a tube....they draw up their heads and let the food float right past them. I then started dumping the food just above their heads and as it floats down they will eat...as long as there is no tube. FRUSTRATING! I even added a filter sock and carbon...the water just looks dirty...I'm going for daily water changes.... in a 56g how much do you think should I do each evening?

If you're really into doing daily, then I'd see what a week's worth of 5g/day water changes does for you. I don't think you'll need to do daily water changes forever, though. Sorry your horses aren't tube-feeding yet!

I have to mix some new water up....by this weekend I will have 30g that I can start dipping out of. I increased the surface movement as well...I have some nasty brown algae forming on the little refugium I just put in. I seeded it with amphipods and copepods but I don't see any little bugs at all. I hope they are still in there to do their job and multiply.
I notice the female and two of the males hunt for more food, but one is a column hugger and very lazy. It eats when the food floats close enough to his head...he doesn't want to strain anything...LOL

I was just getting to update this thread. I am going to order my seahorses tonight and hopefully get them Wednesday.

I tried to post the details, but my laptop revolted. I guess it thinks I should wait until Wednesday to divulge the details.

So, I ordered more pods, some peppermint shrimp, more feather dusters (I love them) &

a pair of Erectus.

LOL...remember pictures...from bags to the new home. It's going to be a LONG day before Wednesday comes. Did you order from Seahorse source, SWF or another place?

I ordered from this site.I was going to order from another place but my emails about shipping and some other questions I had went unanswered. I sent 3 emails and gave them 2 weeks to respond. I figure if a business can't take 2 minutes to answer an email, then they should not get my business. Shipping has been confirmed.

Now, I have a ton of stuff to do before I get my new items.
