Awesome...I hope the one stays yellow for you. I have all natural looking stuff in my Kuda tank...so the horses stay chocolate color. LOL...It sounds better to me to say chocolate then dark brown.

Thanks!! The yellow pic was taken the day I got them and the pic of the white seahorses was taken last night. They have lost their yellowness. I thought I was going to lose one of them. It was just laying at the bottom of the tank and not move around much. On day three, it started to hitch on the hitches at the bottom of the tank. Now, it is eating much more and very active.

Whew...That's the part that makes my heart skip a beat. Wondering if the new horse will eat and be alright. Once I see it snick up some food, everything in me breaths a sigh of relief. 3 days... I had a male Potbelly do that to me, he just had the worst time adapting I guess, but after just a days he was a happy critter.

Doesn't it drive you crazy when they stop eating for a day or decide to just hang out, only to be normal the next day?!

Hi,
If my horses don't eat, I panic. Little piggy eaters they are... if they are healthy. LOL...just hanging out is what they do best. They think they are unseen if they freeze in place and hug close to whatever they are hitched to. So if your horses do that, your face is too close to the tank for them to feel comfortable.

I go in total freak out mode if they don't eat for even one feeding. I have worked so hard to keep seahorses and I do not want to face anymore setbacks. I already failed miserably with the last set. I was a little bummed last night. I found a video of my last pair of seahorses shortly before they died. :(

I know what you mean, they are not like other fish. They are like puppies, just with fins. Shake it off, it's not good to dwell on the past ... you can only go forward.

Obviously, I have moved forward and I am not dwelling on the past. I was just stating that I was a little bummed when I saw the video, which I think is a normal response.

I hope I didn't offend you...it was my pitiful attempt to comfort you. I killed all 4 of my Erectus seahorses because I had not noticed that my Aquaripure filter had stopped running...then I flushed the hose right into the sump. It smelled strong, but I didn't give it a thought, by next morning I had all dead horses. I still kick myself, I was so ashamed that I killed every one of them. I didn't get anymore Erectus horses, instead I went with the Kuda.
The only other seahorse I ever lost was Fred, my big Potbelly male. I had switched brands of Mysis shrimp and because all 7 of the other horses were fine, it didn't occur to me it was the food switch. Poor baby starved to death. I watch the video of him and just feel like crap...so I told you what I told myself. It took almost a year before I replaced Fred.

These seahorses will eat anything I put in the tank. I was feeding my main tank a homemade fish food mixture and decided to give the fish in the seahorse tank a treat, since they only get mysis. The seahorses went right for the food. I was shocked.

That's awesome, you won't have any worries if the store is out of your brand of food. I never tried anything but the frozen Mysis.

I guess I should update this thread. The hybrid seahorses I bought didn't make it. In hind sight, they never had a strong snicking reflex. I did not give up on keeping seahorses, since I got a pair at a frag swap in June. These seahorses are doing much better than any seahorse I have tried to keep. They eat much more at feeding time and are much more active. I have also hooked up an mp10 and air bubblers to help with flow.

H. erectus. I'm thinking of ordering from Dan and Abby, but I think I want to wait until after MACNA.
