I just screwed my tank up!

Does look like the sand has been moved.
Do a 50% water change with water as close to temp, Ph and Sg to your tank as possible. Get the skimmer running. Get the carbon back in the filter. Cover the tank with black plastic for 3 days and leave the lights off also. Keep the skimmer cup clean, the filter material changed out. At the end of 3 days take the black plastic off and do another 50% water change.
This is just my opinion.

wow i been readin all the post. lemme ask you a question. are you using ro water or tap water? how are you doing these water changes so quickly since you should have your water mixing for at least 24 hrs. Also your tank shouldnt have gone like that jus cause changing your sand. Ive added plenty of sand over the years and it clears up within an hour.

I use RO water and I have never had a problem by not mixing my water and waiting for 24.
There were two pretty heavy nasty spots in the back of the tank that I took out (cc) and I think there was alot of stuff in those spots that stirred up something.
The tank right now is looking better. No point in a pic since you can still just barely see the rocks. Its having a hard time.

Im just giving it time.
I have a question though......with me moving next year do I keep the sand in the tank and leave a little water in it to avoid this next time?

Don't know how far you are going, BUT when I bought my 54g which was set up already, that's what they did...left enough water to cover the sand, and removed everything else into tubs with tank water.

Did you get an ammonia spike when you set it all back up at your house?

No spike at all....Guess I was lucky...It had no fish though, cause the guy I bought it from had it as a coral tank, and I bought it to put seahorses in.
I didn't add fish for a couple of weeks after that either...

Ah so probbly no nastiness in the sand to stir up then.
Personally I would not;
1. Transport a tank with anything in it. They are not designed for the stress it puts on the glass and you could be looking at a problem down the road.
2. I would not use the sand if I did not rinse the bejeesus out of it before setting the tank back up again.

It was an acrylic tank..if that matters...and it only had to go 90 miles
This tank only has about a 1" sand bed also..and since it was a coral only tank, that could be why there wasn't a bunch of crapola in the sand.

Probably a better bond on acrylic tanks than glass.
Yeah directing my statements at Guppster though.

I know, I was just making a statement that might matter though...the difference in moving a coral tank compared to a tank with fish

So if I took the sand out would I put the rock into tub containers until I know the ammonia was not going to spike in the tank?
The tank is moving about 4 hours over the mountains and through the woods

bla what a process

I give up ya'll...............

Still can hardly see anything. More of a yellowish green tint then a green tint.
I have done enough water changes since I have been home to rid whatever is floating in there and still no change. I even had my lights off for 2.5 days and nothing acumulated in the filter. I have had the timer on the lights switched to 5 hours a day now. Everything is still growing and doing fine up front where I can see them. My mushroom is twice the size that it was so something is making him go crazy.
Do I just need to stop doing water changes and let this algae eat everything up in the water until there is nothing left?

I would like to turn my lights off for another 2 days, but my fuzzy mushrooms were looking like they were about to croak if I did not turn them on the last time.
What is shocking is that this tank has been crystal clear since I had it and one move of that stupid sand and here we go
