But there is no where else that has the programs for special needs children like they have here in Suffolk County, so yes, I am very stuck. And even Charlotte is too "hick" for me, LOL. I know, it's sad.

SETTLEMENT REACHED!!!! WOOHOO!!!!

They're giving me $10,000 + paying for the rental car for two weeks (anoter $400).
I owe $11,500 on the car. My friend that owns a body shop is willing to buy the car from me for $3K. I'm going to pay the loan, sell the car to him, take the extra $1500 and use it as a down payment to get a new car.
The lawyer basically told them that since they wrote me up a claim ticket for damage to the car, they admitted fault, and if I took them to court they'd loose. I wanted it settled as quickly as possible, so I'll take a little less money than I would have gotten from going to court just to be done with this whole fiasco. It works to my advantage, because now I don't have a totaled out car on my insurance record and my rate won't be affected at all. I'm super happy with the outcome. It's good to know people :)

I guess I have to take my lawyer (friend) out to a really nice dinner now, just need to make sure they don't have valet parking at the restaurant, LOL.

Thanks! I'm soooo happy. I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I haven't been sleeping well because this whole thing has been so stressful. I'm in the middle of having my house finished to move in, money is tight due to that, I didn't need this on top of it all.

I lived in the south for 3.5 years, eastern TN, and I am sure glad to be rid of that place. I know that there are 3 sides to TN, east central and west, and that i cant judge the entire south on just what eastern TN is like. But good lord, there is a reason why there are sooo many redneck jokes. And there is a reason as to why they are all funny, because they are all true.

The absolute best one is "hold my beer and watch this." It is uniformly universal. Not only do we have morons in the south, but there are plenty of morons up here in the north. The people are great in the south, polite, kind, generous, wholesome family values. But you could take the colective brainpower of TN and lightly darken a piece of bread with it in a toaster.

Huh? What is wrong with "Hold my beer and watch this?" I do that all the time.

Knew a guy that got transferred to eastern TN. Talked to him a couple years later and he described it as a cross between Deliverance, Southpark and the Simpsons.

The rest of the state has nothing on Long Island as far as the quality of schools goes. LI has some of the highest rated public schools in the country. There is a reason why our taxes are so damn high!

There are other metropolitan areas that you could go to with much better people in them than NYC. The regents diploma that NY offers is junk once you get outside the state borders. And as far as the education system here in NY, let me tell you what I saw the past 2 years (effectively the 2 years my daughter has gone to school here in ny.)
The school district high school just got new stadium turf put in for the football field. These things are not cheap as the one put in at Ohio state was $875,000. Now I am sure that Schenectady schools didnt spent that much for the turf, but I am sure it was atleast half. That following summer they announced budget cuts and a proposed tax hike. I wonder what they had to pay for? My wife and I researched the elemntary schools in our area and purchased the house we have now for the specific reason of sending our kids to the elementary school that my daughter goes to. Before she started kindergarten, the school district rezoned the lines and wanted to send our daughter to a different school. the research we did rated the schools on a 1 to 10 basis. the school the district wanted to send our kids to rated a 2 on the national scale. We fought hard and long with the superintendant of the schools and he allowed us to send our kids to the original school. We fought long and hard to send our kids to a school rated at 3 i believe. No where near the quality of schools i went to as a kid nor my wife. But we are poor, broke, and stuck in this house for now. We both agree that we need to move to a better place, but cant due to the economy. The schools here in NY suck, no offense, and I am more and more pissed off that my kids were born here in NY as opposed to Ohio. I do not for a second regret the decision to marry my wife as she is such an awesome person. I do regret the move to NY and wish I could go back in time and change that decision.
North of westchester is "hicksville"? Girl, are you serious? You realize that you just changed the color of my neck, right? LOL

The reason is that the government in this state has no idea what to do with that money. It is all spent on programs and crap that this state doesnt need. Best example of wasted tax dollars i have seen, in person, since moving here is this:
Driving down the interstate I saw 1 street sweeper followed by 6 DOT trucks. The sweeper was cleaning the highway THAT WAS ADOPTED by some local organization. WTF?!?!?!!!!! 1. an organization paid to get their name on a sign and is supposed to clean the damn side ofthe road and what not. 2. a street sweeper on the interstate? really? 3. followed by 6 trucks for safety? come on. I can see it being followed by 1 truck but 6? I want the job of the guy in the 5th truck. $20 an hour to idle down the interstate.
