In addition to the IV fluids you are getting, don't underestimate the need to push fluids via old fashion drinking water. Especially with an embolism. If you are not the type who likes to drink water, then you need to start getting into the habit of doing so. Keeping good hydration is key with this problem, and avoiding a recurrence. Myself I am a water sponge and am rarely seen without my aquafina. LOL However, a lot of womaen are not water fans I have noticed. Or milk fans for that matter which may account for the higher incidence of osteoporosis in women.
Do you take baby aspirin? That may be an alternative to taking anticoagulants when you get home. Maybe discuss with doctor at discharge.
Hi Beth,
I had a massive heart attack when I was 22...related to childbirth. The cardiologist was just here. That old scar on my heart has healed, however my heart is not the right shape. He said my problem is that my heart rate drops dangerously when I sleep. He wants me to use a CPAP machine when I sleep forever, never without it
He said it has been going on so long unnoticed that it caused the right side of my heart to bulge...creating the misshape he found.
My dog wakes me up almost every hour at home, I get angry with him thinking nothing alive needs to potty that often in the middle of the night...he won't let me sleep until I get up and let him out, lately I have been closing my bedroom door, so he leaves me alone....seems my dog has been keeping me alive for the last 7 years, without him waking me up the clots formed in my lungs because of the slow flow of blood. The nurses here have been waking me up at night the same way the dog did, because my monitor showed a dangerous sudden drop in my heart rate when I sleep. I was put on a CPAP machine last night, the alarm went off twice to wake me up..but no drop in my heart rate on the monitor.
I have been taking baby aspirin for years, and I am a big fan of constant liquids. I have a bubbler in my living room for good cold RO water whenever we want it, or good hot water for tea, another good drink for health. Until my knees went I was very active and worked hard all my life.
The cadiologist told me a CPAP machine is an easy fix...since it worked, and they will keep an eye on me to be sure. So I won't need a pacemaker installed.
