Hey Flower, I have been away so long - sorry to hear you are not feeling well. I wear a CPAP every night, believe me you will feel better after using it.

I have no problem with that machine. I already consider it a life saver.
I have been living on aspirin and ibuprofen for so long that it has changed my blood...now after 4 days of constant heprin drips and coumadin, the doctor says my numbers (whatever numbers he is looking at) hardly budged and my blood isn't thin enough for me to go home. He is talking to a hemotologist to try and see what can be done.
My stomach is upset from the new medicine they want me to take for my chronic pain, it's a low narcodic called Tramadin (spelling?) and it makes me sick just like all the others....they will never have to worry about me becoming addicted, I don't understand how anyone could like that light headed nauseated feeling...then I sleep and have a hard time staying awake and feel grumpy to the max.

What is the pain related to?
Its tramadol; a rather lightweight opioid-like drug that is usually prescribed for long-term usage, such as chronic arthritis.
If it is making you sick, then its not for you. Request another type analgesic.

Yep chronic arthritis pain, I need something I can take long term. My stomach is tore up from the aspirin and ibuprofen and the doctor said if I get an ulcer, they won't be able to stop the bleeding. So they don't want me sick and they don't want me to have acid reflux anymore either. They keep feeding me maylox or something white, peppermint tasting and chalky.
The doctor came to see me this evening. They are going to try giving me anti nausea medication before I take the medicine instead of giving it to me when I feel sick from it. He told me a narcotic is about the only way I can go at this stage and that was a really low one. It makes me sleepy besides sick. Any chance once I get used to it I won't feel so tired from it?
To be honest, I wont be taking any medicine until it's so bad I have no choice. I can take allot of pain, I had nothing for my last two children being born, and on the railroad you can't take anything that messes with your ability of think. I have sucked it up for many years....so I guess I will suck it up till I leave this world. At least I can go out with a clear head that way.
Its just arthritis, not like severe pain from cancer or something.

Is it osteoarthritis or rheumatoid, due to injury? Do you see a rheumatologist?

Osteoarthritis. I saw a rheumatologist (my primary doctor insisted) and was told he couldn't do anything for me. My knees gave out and is almost bone on bone on the right side of both knees...like the leaning tower of pisa. No injurey, my spin is crooked and everything leans to the right, and working on the railroad for 35 years has taken it's toll. For many years I cleaned 18 cars...each car has 4 flights of steps 7 each. So that makes 72 flights of steps a night, then I transferred to Antioch yard for lighter work and doing only 14 cars a night...making 56 flights of steps, and when I couldn't do that anymore I retired on disability.
My feet are severe arthritic and has bone growing where it shouldn't from wearing steel toed boots, seems I'm flat footed. My hands have no strength anymore, I have arthritis in my hands, because I used to ring out mops in the cold water on the train to clean in the coaches in the winter time, they get so stiff I can't move my fingers, and as a double whammy.... carpal tunnel syndrom too.
I also have a very bad back, from bending over so much to clean the trains, but that is muscular, when it goes out, I can't even turn over in bed without help. If my back goes...I may as well sleep because I can't do anything anyway....then I take the strong stuff gladly....and puke later.
My knees swell if I do anything and hurts like a toothache, so my exercise bike has been sold along with my glider. So much for exercise. My feet...well I can't walk very far maybe half a block, then every step is agony. Aspirin nor obuprofen helps my feet, I don't walk anywhere and count every step I take until I can sit. I have learned to multi task and do everything at once so I don't have to re-trace any steps. LOL...I put my groceries in a cart to being into the house because I can't do the back and forth to the car to get them...one trip only.
LOL, now you know my entire health history. I also had a massive heart attack when I was 22, childbirth related. However my stair climbing made my heart stronger. The doctor says my heart looks pretty good and although he could see the damaged area, my heart has healed up and is working good and strong....at least that 's what he told after my stress test yesterday.

So what you are saying is that you are old and decrepit :)
I have learned to shut out the pain most times. It's just the nagging nerve stuff but as long as it's consistent it's no biggie. They gave me something called MS Contin. I can double my dose and still not catch a buzz LOL! If you haven't already get them to send you to chronic pain therapy. They can teach you some breathing exercises and stuff to help with the pain. The place I went basically used exercise and the stretching and breathing aspects of Yoga. It helps but not as much as a few scotch rocks .

LOL...I'm not old, just decrepit. I had two children without pain meds or anything...I know how to breath thru the pain. I can't sleep tonight, my legs are jumping. Everytime I drift off to sleep this machine alarmes...that means I stopped breathing. I'm up for the night.

Has someone suggested knee surgery?
The problem with tradmadol is that it only kills pain for a brief period, so you have to keep taking it. Like any opioid. With arthritis, a lot of the pain is caused by inflammation, which tradmadol will not do anything for.
Did you get any blood work for the arthritis to rule out more serious conditions?
I agree that yoga is great for just about anything that ails you. You may consider low impact yoga.

I don't want surgery. I know Tramadol has no anti inflammatory, the days of those meds are going the way of the dodo for me .I liked aspirin and ibuprofen because of that. Doctor says they all thin the blood and is no longer allowed with the blood thinners he wants me on.
The hemotologist told me that it may have begun saying on blood thinners from 6 months to a year...but because my clots didn't form from DVT and my history of heart problems, he wants me on thinners permanently.
Can I do yoga on the bed? LOL...No standing, my feet won't let me do that, no laying on the floor, because I won't be getting off the floor, I would have to just stay there forever and no getting on my knees.
