If you remove all those cats from the house, there would be less breathing, friction, etc...thus cooler temps

You're going to laugh...I have the front lid of the 54g up to help cool it....Meowzer just landed his front two paws in it....He jumped from the entertainment center to it...HAHA...You should have seen him run across the house...this is why I HAVE TO have some type of lids

If they installed the a/c correctly then there should be dampers (they look like little handles) on the take-offs directly off the main ductwork trunk. Figure out which ducts feed which room. Shut each damper slightly & that will disperse more air to the other rooms - make sure the fish room is wide open. The way the handle is facing is the way the damper is inside the duct-work. Shutting the floor registers doesn't always work the best, plus when you shut the registers the air gets very noisy coming out of them. You can also leave you "fan" (on the t'stat) in the "on" position - not auto. With all the tanks you have you are introducing allot of humidity to the air.

Each duct..on the ceiling...has a little handle...the center position is wide open...I have 3 rooms closed, and yes air still comes out some...I have tried everything....

If the registers are in the ceiling then you duct work is in the attic. The handles should be up there (send your husband up!) that is where you would need to close the handles a little.

Yes the duct work is in the attic...I will ask him if he knows anything about these handles....ONE PROBLEMO...We had like a foot of that insulation stuff blown in a couple of years ago...it covers EVERYTHING...

This is a picture of what should be in your attic. There should be one on each supply duct (probably a round flexible "pipe")
I hope this helps, I'm a saltwater newbie, but know my HVAC

I know about the "Yankee fan" thing & I won't hold it against you

Your one of the few Yankee fans that I respect & trust your SW knowledge.
Just remember don't shut any of those dampers completely - each one a little at a time & see how it works (colder rooms maybe a little more). Every time you shut one it distributes air evenly throughout the rest of the system, & don't forget about the "fan" setting. It can even the temp out throughout the whole house.

Hi, Not sure but I think this will fix your problem on your house t-stat you should have a fan on switch. Turn on fan this should help to equalize the temperature of the entire house.you dont need to run a/c that way unless this room has a lot of solar gain. hope this helps Good Luck

On the other end of all this; IMO, 84 degrees isn't dangerous. Natural reef temps can be well above this. I've kept tanks for years that stayed about 84 and they do just fine. Maybe 84 isn't "ideal" according to a lot of folks: but it isn't anything to panic about.

I thought running the fan was bad...doesn't it run all the time then? Will it blow cool air when needed too?

WELLLL...My husband says we don't have those things on the ducts

I think the window a/c is probably my best bet...and I won't need a blanket and slippers for a room that is 75

Sorry, I missed the Seahorse part; I know nothing about them. (obviously)
LOL...No problem...if it wasn't for them I wouldn't be as worried...except what happens when it's 100 out...
