Is this hobby always so frustrating?

I do and I've cleaned it off, I just don't know why it's so bad? I pulled the skimmer out to make sure it's working and it's fine. I think I've got all the right foods but this algae is driving me nuts. While at the store I looked for something to help with water movement on top of tank, but walked out mad at store, no service! Went to my fave store but regular guy is away.

Ya, it's hard to keep the lights off. I turn them on in the am to check on everyone, leave for work then like to enjoy at night. Now that kids are back to school, they can turn on when they get home. Is this still enough light for the corals?

Get some timers......best investment......have then come on when you can see them
How many hours are you running them now?

They are on from about 8am to 10 pm......I've read most run 8 -10 hours. We've got a timer, just haven't used it.

Hmm by the way if you going to remodel don't keep the LR out so long. :O it can cause a crash in the tank when you put them back in. If you want better lay out. Get more flat or cave looking rocks are smaller chuck. Bigger chuck of rocks sometime harder to make it look nice. You can also break your rock apart if you want. Try to get non spike rock. Well just a suggestion.

The rock was out for 10-15 mins max, I knew it could cause problems so long enough to get new big pieces in then put them back in and worked around them. I hostly wasn't thinking about the layout when I bought, was picking stuff that looked unique, get them home and they end up being roundish. I've got 59 lbs, not sure I need more, but will remember the tip for next time. Thx

Hmm is there any possible way of exchanging rock with your lfs? If you can i say go for it! I became really good friend with the owner of my lfs. He always gives me discounts ^^. See if you can exchange rocks. Then you can carefully rework your way around them. This is my current rock work of my tank.

Oh Hmm i sorta had the same brown problem till i boosted the CUC. I got more tubro snail. I need to boost up my cuc more again since i being feeding my coral more often it gets more green sometime. Snail aren't keeping up with the pace.

The tank is a bit restrictive in shape, I'd love to pile in the middle but tank is too narrow. I do like how it looks now and I've seen others set up the same, maybe with different shaped rocks tho. We're already looking at bigger tanks but not for a while, gotta get this figured out, new at this. More cuc is needed but want sand snails. I'm hoping I get some new babies showing up after last weeks show the snails were putting on.

Ohhhhh A new tank! :D Ah the joy in getting a new tank! XD I only been in this hobby for a year so far. Ohhhh Sounds great! :D Just imagine your tank after a few more years. The joy and accomplishment when you look at your tank at night knowing you have successfully accomplish a nice looking tank and the joy of showing it to others. :3 Sadly my sis doesn't see the joy in it hahaha. I wish the best of luck to you! :D

New tank is far off, going to learn with this one and watch it grow. I can't wait till it's a year old but even now it's fun to watch!

Yes! That what make SW so exciting. Though i swear it will stress me sometime. I always worry about fish... i even start to dream about them dying... haha.. or when i go on vacation and tell my sister take care of them. I was worry throughout the trip and had nightmare that they were dying. or water level was low or something. hahaha.. ah i am addicted... they have better food than i do. LOL.. so sad...

Lol I am starting to get that too,(addicted) fish are fun, who knew they would have personalities....the corals have me hooked tho! So new thing I've learned today...lights on timers, less time on! My daughter is tank sitting this weekend, but she's good at it! Hmmm Fish dreams..that's serious...lol

Me too! Corals are very loving but it was hard to always place them in the tank when you want it to look nice and then sometime knock down other rocks work when putting the coral x.x ohhh your daughter is probably excited too! XD ya fish dream my parent were calling me crazy lmao! Ah but I am very happy with my fish tank. :)

Are clowns jumpers? Ours was found on the floor today, just got home from a long weekend. Set the lights on timers, water level was a bit low so topped up, algae on glass still a problem but does not appear to be settling on the rocks. I've read about fish that jump but didn't think we had any that would, my daughter found her this morning but too late. What do people use to keep fish in the tank?? I'm really sad about this!!
