+1 i dont cover mine either, i used to though. The reason imo they jump is cause when a fish gets scared or spooked or watever. They swim away, if there is no room for the fish to go than they run into the glass and go up! LOL Silly fish....some are more prone to do it though. This hobby does indeed have a mystery side to it! Ive had fish just up and disappear! At least u found the fish bubblegurl!

i remember buying a longnose hawkfish maybe 11 years ago .i put him in the tank then had to go somewhere.my wife(girlfriend at the time)called 20 minutes after i left and found it dead on the floor.recently maybe three months ago my sweet looking blenny jumped.also lost a snowflake eel years ago .my flame hawk i have now ,i have found in my overflow box one time and another i was sitting right where i am now in my cushy chair on the computer ,i heard something hit the floor ,the lights are out .its dark so i turned on the room light and he was on the ground.he is still alive and well.i hope he learned his lesson.it was about 3 months ago

lol i had a zebra dart jump out and he was covered in dog hair from being on the floor(pugs shed). I rinsed him off under the sink and threw him back in LOL...he made it but about a month ago one of em went missing...i hate when i cant explain it!
Im sure the dart learned his lesson cause non of the other fish have jumped...he prob told em!
firefish...bi-color blenny...another dart
I swear sometimes the fish are like fook it im going for it!

Hah,... I have one better yet!
I was missing a neon goby for about six months. When I finally got around to cleaning out my overflow... guess who was in there?!
And yet another one:
I came home from college one day to find my black and white clownfish half dried up on the floor, kinda crispy on the edges, yah know? Well, Despite my better judgement, I flopped him back in the tank and he softened up and went right back swimming. I had him another year before I lost him in a move.
Worst thing is to have a big fish like a naso tang jump out the back of the tank while your on vacation. EEEWWWW

Thanks everyone. She always hung out near the top of the tank at night by the skimmer, maybe she did get spooked.... My bf thinks the cat may have got her but I doubt it, he's dumb...lol. So i guess covering is personal choice?
Corals have perked up though, my brain and bubble are so much better! Tank looks good too, still lots of algae on the glass but it's not showing up on the rocks and sand. I have 9 turbo snails on the go and about 6 hermit crabs, lights having been running 5 hours a day since Friday. Cut to one feeding per day as well for the fish and I fed the corals tonight, nothing wasted.
Any thoughts on the algae?

you r tank can be running perfect and you will always get a film a algae on the glass.it is the norm.alot of times during the summer we get those pesky bugs in the house like flies(which i hate more than having a scorpion in the house) mosquitoes and other flying things .they of course are attracted to light and the fish jump to eat them.sometimes they have bad aim and end up on the floor. it happens alot .of course we aint there to see it

My chromis and clown always raced back and forth across the tank, he's a cocky bugger so maybe he got under and pushed her out, he used to do that when we first got him...

clowns are a pretty stout fish.dont think a cromis would scare him ...ever
still odd to find a clown on the floor.my clown is never past half way up the tank

28 years?! Wow, that's so cool! You still get excited about your tank and it's inhabitants? Or do you just enjoy what you have?
