Your tank looks amazing! I wish I had seen this sooner. Do you ever have problems with the CBB and your mushrooms? Because this website says they aren't reef safe.

Thanks.
Nope... I also have shrooms that the CBB has never touched. But I keep him well fed with aptasia.
I was actually thinking about trying a clam, but that may be too much of a gamble.

BTW, welcome to the boards.

hi crimzy,
I loved your design so much I copied it in my 200 gal, that is I have two reefs one at each end of the tank. Its a great idea because it provides maximum visibility of my fish. I currently have the following in my 200. And I also bought a lion after seeing yours :)
Keep up the good work.
200gal + 70gal sump:
- 5" & 4" Yellow Tangs
- 6" Hippo Blue Tang
- 6" Koran Angel
- 6" Volitan Lion Fish
- 4" Orange-lined Trigger
- 15" Zebra Moray Eel

Hey Crimzy, no coralline on the back wall. Do you keep it clean always? That is a lot of glass to clean!

I don't get much true coralline growth. But I do work tirelessly to keep the acrylic clean. Takes me about 2 hours every 10 days or so to scrape. It's very tough actually on this tank.

I was getting a great deal of coralline on the back wall. I first thought to leave it and have a natural look but after seeing other tanks covered in it, I thought it took away from the tank its self so I scrapped it all off.. Nothing really stands out when there is coralline everywhere.

I have to warn... I just took a LOT of pics.
Very happy though because my tank went through a rough period and came out of it ok. About the same time that I got the Duss, I also set up my other 2 MH lights. After getting the fish and the lights running, things seemed to go a bit haywire for a while. The Duss was aggressive with all the other tangs but was seeing the worst of the fights. He started showing abrasions on his scales. Then my hippo got a couple spots of ich. Then my naso seemed to get stressed and was swimming nervously... even stopped eating for a couple days. Fortunately after a brief period, everything stabilized again and things are now very good in my tank.
The first pics are the 3 phases of lighting, (besides moonlights at night)...
Just the blues (T-5 and VHO):

Two MH's (20K):

All Four MH's (3 x 20K and 1 x 10K):

Wow crimzy amazing tank!
So how did you figure your support system out? Did you just put them flush with the floor and ceiling or did you tighten them slightly?

I'd love to have done a school of anthias. The only thing stopping me is my lionfish. It would make a quick meal of pretty much any anthias.

Nothing too exciting. The back of the tank sits just over the main support beam of the house. Under the front of the tank I installed 3 x floor jacks. These are rated to hold 10,000 lbs each. There are some pics early in this thread.

So obviously your tank would need support and good thing it was also over the main beam, but how do you know when your tank needs support?

Well you can talk to a builder or structural engineer. My setup was copied from the person who had this tank before me. Probably better to err on the side of caution regarding an issue like weight.

Are you going to consider reef down the road?
My tank's pretty much a hybrid right now. I have shrooms, zoos, GSP, Kenya tree, leather and candy cane corals as well as some assorted polyps. With my stock list I have to be careful about what I try. Anenomes, frogspawn, will not mix well with my rays. Unfortunately I can't seem to get good pics of my corals.
I am going to try a clam. The biggest risk to the clam is my copperband butterfly but I know it has worked for people. I may go look for one tomorrow.

Did you consider sharks at one point in time?
I love the lion fish. Its great that he has a nice big home to swim around in
