when ppl refer to cyano, its usually referred as an algae problem. have you done the 3 day black out yet? its amazing, it lets your clean up crew catch up a bit

Nah, the 3day will be my last resort, with chemical treatment...
I changed my time to 10hrs light total, and feeding every 3 days roughtly.
Going to do W/C tomorrow to try to suck up all the cyano I can get to especially the stuff growing in my fuge, have to do a cleanup in there. The stuff on the powerhead and in the sand has seem to have left. I just have a small amount on the rock that my zoas are on, and my suncoral.

my actinics are on for 9 hours and my daylights for 6 hours. the 3 day will not harm the corals. if its receding just do a 1 day black out

So I just finished a massive cleanning on my tank.
Fuge:
Cleanned the traces of cyano left in there. I also only kept a handful of cheato threw out the rest. Chnged the phosphate pad that was in there. Also replaced the filterfloss, and packed more in the intake and outtake chambers, so nothing unwanted can get into my DT.
DT:
Cheanged the filter media, and sucked up the traces of cyano I had on my rocks. Cyano problem is now undercontroll and receeding. The stuff that was growing in the sand, powerhead, and some rocks are all gone. I also took a turkey baster for the first time to the rocks, made a ditom storm lol. Syphoned out most of the stuff floating around in the water column, and I did a 20% water change. Also took a rasor to the glass and scrapped everything off.

Sounds like you have been busy...lol....just watch for the cyano....it doesn't usually go away that fast....In your case I HOPE it does :) I hate the stuff

Well mine wasnt that bad..
The stuff on the sand went away within a day..
Its the stuff on the rock that was getting the most nutrients because I never blasted my rock work. The source was also comming from my fuge. In the pics I posted you could see how much was growing i nmy return chamber ontop of the cheato. Now that I took out all that cheato + the cyano ontop it seems to have calmed down. Also I think the feeding every 3days is helping and the 10hr light schedual change.
Obviously I'm going to keep an eye on it though, and remove the stuff as it pops up. I havent tested the water yet, since I'm sure theres gonna be some sort of spike from blowing the stuff off the rocks. So I'm just waiting for my carbon and new phosphate media to kick in and help out.

Wow sounds like quite a cleaning job. I'm having some nuisance cyano issues as well. But it only seems to form on one of my rocks. Has anyone else experienced cyano that only forms on specific rock types? I think it may be a piece of dead coral not true live rock

Yup I experience it growing on my zoa rocks the most. It doesnt seem to be growing o nthe other rocks. The zoas came on that branched LR stuff.

It's my understanding that the branched "live rock" is not technically live rock and is coral fragments too. I notice the same thing

it could possibly be growing on certain rocks because the silicates still arent removed all the way. i notice this with the frag plugs, then after a week or two, the algae on them die down
