Should i put a piece of raw cocktail shrimp in the tank? To help cycle or leave it as is?
I..(personally) would just leave it...You have had it set up 2 days

I see some people do that, I have not...with my new 29G, I threw in a little mysis shrimp after 4 days...I put my LR in a tote when I first got it for 2 days, and I think A lot of the die off died off in the tote

Have you done an initial water test yet?

No not yet unfortunatly I dont have money to buy the 40$ test kit untill maybe acouple of weeks. Stupid question but would I be able to use the freshwater ammonia n nitrate, nitrite kit? Probably not but worth asking. Yes cycling helps the tank a lot before doing anything but from my past experiences I've never acctually fully cycled a tank before adding in anything to it, of course I've had acouple fish lose but now there doing great. I only learned about cycling about a month ago and I've had my 20g freshwater tank stocked for over a year without cycling it. Now that I test it I see that its fully cycled. But is it a big deal if i dont monotor the water paramater untilkl acouple of weeks since im not adding anything into the tank untill acouple of months? I want the water to be fully ready when I add anything into it. I also want a nice algea groth before adding fish also. I might add invert's once the cycle is fully done. Then wait acouple months add coral then another couple months then fish. Or should the fish be added then coral?

Well the only way you can use your FW tests are if they state: for use with both FW and SW...otherwise, as you guessed...no
Can you have your lfs test for you? The reason is you will not know when or if you get your spikes...
I have never cycled a FW tank...LOL...I put the water in, added some stress coat, chlorine remover....let it run 24hours (maybe) and threw fish in....never lost any....

This way you can keep track....Then when you can...but the main test kits...then one here and there...that's what I did....I could not afford to buy all at once either

Does mixing salt come with experience because I suck at it! I had to raise the salt concentration and when I got home it jumped way to high lol so i took some water out and added plain dH2O

LOL...When you mix, if it is too low...just add a little at a time....you'll figure it out.
I did the same thing this week
I usually use a heaping 1/2 cup, and when I tested my salinity it was way up there
I think I just miscounted and threw in too much...WAYYYYY too much...But I just diluted it with my ro/di top off...and all was fine

Yeah I went to a party lastnight and when i got home I looked at it and it was off the chart haha. Its going back down now though I think the temp. had soemthing to do with it when I was trying to raise it. I'll be lucky if anything on my rock is still alive lol. How do you know when the rock is cured?
Heres a crystal clear pic of the tank and my rock. Some purple algea is growingon it now in spots and the slimy stuff looks to becoming hard.

OHHHHH this was in your tank?????? I thought you meant your water you mixed up...LOL
Your w/c water had to have been high then....salinity shouldn't go up like that on it's own..unless your salt wasn't mixed good, and over time it dissolved into the water...I'm guessing there..LOL

This is why you test daily....your ammonia should go up..then down...then your nitrites should do the same and then your nitrates....once everything is to zero...you should be done with your initial cycle....
Just so no one tries to correct me...LOL...A cycle of a tank is one continuous thing...neverending (like the cycle of life)...that is why I said "Initial"..

yeah everytime you add soemthing the water chemistry has to balance out again. I have tiny little bubbles like infesting my heater should i wipe these off it so no algea gorws on it? there on the heater and the underbelly of the rock

I cant seem to lower the specific gravety concentration in my tank. Its at 1.029 I keep taking out water and adding freshwater(no salt) into it to dilute it but thats not working to well, unless i have to keep doing it.
