I cant seem to lower the specific gravety concentration in my tank. Its at 1.029 I keep taking out water and adding freshwater(no salt) into it to dilute it but thats not working to well, unless i have to keep doing it.
How much have you taken out?

about 10% at a time and refilled it with d/o water. I havent been testing the ammonia nd what not yet so I dont care about messing up the cycle at this time i rather get my salt concentration down then worry about the cycle.
On a side note is there such a thing as like a rock clam or something? On the underbelly of one of my pieces of LR theres this clam like structure that is like attached to the LR and every so often it opens up a little then closes. It has like jagged teeth

Yeah I just scared it though with the last water change let me wait till it opens up a little again. Right now it just looks like a bump on the rock. Ill do the 20% in acouple of hours just incase it decides to drop. But it seems to be going up again 1.030. Bah who knew making water was so hard lol.
The bag told me to put in 1/2 a cup for every gallon? and thats what I did but it was to low and now its to high.

Just give it time...like I said the only thing I could imagine is maybe you had undissolved salt and it dissolved in the tank
Try to get a pic of the creature too...LOL

I only have a cell phone for pictures and i tried but it just looks like a bloob attached to the rock. The creature looks like a regular clam but like with interlocking jagged edges. Its the colour of the rock, well acctually it looks exactly like the rock and it looks like it bacame part of the rock because its stuck in one possition. It opens like a crack and chills for a while then snaps it shut. I guess what ever it is its a filter feeder? Ill try my best to get a pic! Oh yeah and it was an emerald crab in my tank i gave it back to the store though.

algae question. So i have purple specs(i know this algae is good), green patches, brown patches, and then a rock with mostly black patches. Which are good which should i watch out for ect. also I heard theres chemicals to make the coraline(dont know if i spelt it) algae to grow faster should i look into buying that 2morro also?

NO CHEMICALS....
...Seriously let it happen naturally..in a new tank you should get different algaes...when you are sure your water is good, you will start with your clean up crew...which should eat the algae that you don't want...I just added a few snails to my new 29g....I will buy a few more that are diatom algae eaters...then in a week some more, and then a fish..LOL

and then some coral! I was looking at a website and for the corals i want to get i was thinking of green bubble coral, candy cane brown, pearl bubble, sun coral, maybe a colt coral, Finger coral, blue shroom, then some poly's to fill up space. I'm obviously not going to put all of those in there because i dont think i have enough room unless i pile some more rock so i have a base for them. But what do u think? good choices I looked for ones that are for beginners. I think the hardest one to care for is the sun because you have to spot feed it. But i can handle that.
Im going to go with the Coralife 20" 96 Watt Quad Aqualight Compact Square Pin
and all these corals do great with pc lighting =) (hal;ide are recommended for the green corals, but not necessary)

At this point, I would NOT put anything into your tank. You just need to test daily...The ammonia should go down, then the trites, then the trates...let the cycle happen, and then worry about p.h. and such....

If you are using a hydrometer it could be giving you false readings. Also if you have a 10 gallon tank and added 10 1/2 cups of salt that could make it high because there are less than 10 gallons of water in there due to the displacement of the sand and rock. Just a thought for you

Your clam could be a turkey wing Arca zebra
"The mollusk attaches itself by its byssus (threadlike filaments) to rocks and other solid objects in shallow water.
The shell may grow to the length of 4 inches. It is a fairly thick shell with an ******** of very pale lavender. It has a long series of approximately 50 small teeth "
