drained and took down the QT today. Ill setup a new smaller one later this week. I am thinking of just using the water from my DT. I usually do a 20g water change ever 2 weeks. If I do one after 1 week I could just use the "waste water" to start the QT right? The water cant be that bad. And If I use that water there shouldnt be a cycle right? Everything will be ready to go?

I try to watch for your thread to pop up. Just sometimes I have no advice I can give. I still watch your progress!

I don't think you should have a big cycle, if any.

WHOO 3 fans! lol
for you guys watching I am making some RO water to get ready to fill the new QT. Does anyone know if home depot or lowes does sealent jobs? I would really like to get the large QT prefessionally sealed. My grandpa (who can really do anything when it comes to DIY) and I sealed it ourselves. It seemed fine but as time went on water slowly started coming through. In the mean time I am thinking about getting some more snails to keep the tank a little cleaner and pick up a few more frags.

I do not know about lowes or home depot. I don't even know if I would trust them though
Some of thier staff have no clue what they are doing.
I would just reseal it with a better sealer.

yah I would pick up more corals for your tank..so the wait doesn't seem so bad, but you should just get the QT running with your tank water, and then no cycle would occur..I think?

Ya I was thinking about that but a cycle would still take place. The bacteria that forms during a cycle isnt in the actual water, its on the tanks surfaces, rocks, sand etc. So just adding the water from my DT really wouldnt do anything. I should have the new QT filled by thursday. Making ro water today. add salt tonight/tomorrow, then let it age a day.

so the only place the bacteria would have to grow is on the tank surface.. unless you plan on putting rock or sand in there? also maybe you could skip this process by just wiping the sides and bottom out every week and suck it up for a water change?

Sorry everyone. I havnt been home and to avoid getting behind schedule I had to use the water I made for the QT for a water change with the DT. QT will be filled most likely this weekend. I did however pick up a florida ric and got some new top down pics(my first attempt at them).
