Kevin's Tank!!!

I stopped in to look at my canopy thats being build the other day and it looks AWSOME!!! I have to bring in the fans and reflectors later this week to get the last holes drilled so I should be painting it by this weekend. Im still waiting for the right plastic clamps to come in (i have gotten the wrong ones 3 times in a row now
) and once those come in I will finish installing the plumbing and do a leak test. I have another question about the leak test. At what level does the sump start to fill? Does it not start filling until the tank is all the way full? If everything goes according to plan my tank should be cycling before Febuary which is my goal. Would I need food ready for my cleanup crew after my cycle or will the crabs, snails, and shrimp find food on their own in there?

Start with water in your sump (fill it to about where you want it to opperate at), and keep adding water to the tank until it starts to drain into the megaflow, and ultimately into the sump. Once the tank starts draining on its own, you can start the pump.
Cleanup crew will be fine with whatever is on the rock for a little while.
Been following this build for a long time, can't wait to see it up and running. You must be ready to pee yourself with excitement.

lol pretty much. Thanks for all the help along the way. I cant believe I have 4 pages on this thread and still nothing in the tank. Forgot to ask if it will be dangerous to use really cold water or really hot water for the water test. If I use a hose to fill the tank thats about all i can get. I could regulate the water temp if I have to but that would mean filling up the tank one bucket at a time.

I used a hose in February and had no problems. The water was cold!
Can't wait to see fish in this long awaited tank!

My canopy is finished! Its at the wood shop waiting for me. I just have to stop in and have the holes cut out for the fans. I have two 4 3/4" 67CFM fans. I want one blowing in and one blowing out. Would you recommend me putting one fan on one side and one on the other or both in the back? Would it make a difference? My original plan was to have them blowing side to side.

I have one on either side with an open top, so the hot air goes up. However, I only need to have one running because the tank drops to much if I have them both on. During the Summer I some times have to turn on the second fan.
I don't have the strip lights on anymore. This was back when I was acclimating my lights.

I picked up my canopy today, put it on my tank, and it doesnt fit!
. The inside lip of the canopy is maybe a milimeter too big so I'v been sanding it down to try and make it fit by the end of the day. If I can get it to fit pics will follow shortly. Other than being too big it looks GREAT.

I'v been sanding the canopy down like a madman too but its a very hard wood. Im gonna bring it back into the shop tomorrow to get it trimmed down by about 1/16 of an inch on both sides. I can get it painted in a couple days. Then I just gotta order a couple more things and I'll be ready to fill the tank. Hopefully I'll be filling it by next week.

One step closer. Im gonna paint the inside white and outside black. Can anyone tell me how to resize photos so I can post some pics?

I like having my pictures on photobucket, that way the picture can be larger (instead of the 500x500 to do an actual attachment). Once you have them on photobucket you just click on the IMG code and past to your message on here. Very simple.

Im going to use some heavy duty exterior house paint to paint it. The inside is going to be white and the outside black to match the stand. The dark stand and canopy along with the dark wall will really make the tanks colors pop out.

thats awsome!! i wicked like that canopy! i just picked up a new 90 gallon setup. the stand and canopy are the same color of your canopy t

Since I am approaching the livestock stage of my tank (hoping to have it ready for LR by the end of next week ish) I thought I would post my desired stocklist and the order in which they will be added.
-tiger jawfish
-2 false perculas
-flasher wrasse
-copperband butterfly
-magnificent foxface (maybe)
-either a flame, bicolor, or coral beauty angel (is there any way I can have 2?)
-purple tang
Does this seem ok? Can I add more small fish? Am I overstocked?
