I am NOT going to use my hands to feed him. Is not that I'm afraid of him but I have an allergy to bees and wasps. I'll have an anaphylactic reaction to it and if I don't get a "shot" I'll be pushing up daisies!!!!

Can anybody tell me if the effect of being stung by a lionfish is the same as a bee?

I have heard that if you have a bee sting allergy you should treat a lion sting the same way run your hand under hot water(not scalding just as hot as you can stand) for a few minutes(this is suposed nutrilize the venum.seek medical attention asap(ps dont pet your lion fish
)

That goes with all lionfish btw. It doesn't matter how big it is.

Yes, that is good advice for if you get stung, but a bee allergy is not the same as an allergy to lionfish venom. I use to think it was, but ophirua opened up my eyes and told me that this was an erroneous belief. She said:
"Keep these in mind:
These venoms are totally different. I, for example, and very severely allergic to wasps and hornets - but not at all to bees. There is no comparison between lionfish venom and bee venom. Being allergic to one or the other really doesn't impact anything. You may be fine with bees, and allergic to lions. You may be allergic to bees, and not to lionfish."

I got some silversides but the antennata just looks at them when they fall inside the tank.

I am sorry to report you are just going to have to continue to give him the ghost shrimp until he eventually takes to the frozen food unless you want him to possibly starve. I would start putting a few silversides into the tank everytime you feed ghost shrimp, moving them around at the surface to make them look lively.

I haven't found that garlic helps very much with lionfish because it is not that they do not want to eat. Garlic is mainly used to entice fish that are being finicky. Lions will readily accept ghost shrimp without any problem. They are just picky as to preferring live. You can't really fault them for this, as this is how they were taught in nature.

Yeah but I am sure if they saw a dead or injured fish that was bitesize, they would happily take it as a free meal.

Well I do not totally agree about the dead fish, I will agree, they will eat an injured fish. This is all a part of their hunting nature. Naturally, the strong pick on the weak and the fittest survive while the weak or injured fall.

what i do for stick feeding(which i have no need to do now) I use a clear acrylic hollow stich i sharpen one end to make peircing the food easier once you have the food on the stick wiggle it around slowly around the fish you want to feed lions are preditors so they like a slow chase .get his attention with a slow movent towards him but then move it away from him stop periodicly .your wanting to mimic life in the food.you may find feeding much easier at nite time just before turning the lights out.they are nocturnal so they do tend to feed better later hrs.the garlic extreme not only helps entice the fish to eat it does help boost the fishes imune system to help fight off potential illness.
