See when I see this I think it was cold and calculating, they wrapped it up with some other statement and another comparison comparing McCain to an 8 year old dead fish. But stuff does have 2 meanings. And I think listening to the crowd there was little doubt what they thought he meant.

Agreed. The crowd had bursted out laughing before he even finished the sentence.

This is from an MSNBC article on the issue:
Accusing Obama of "smearing" Palin in "offensive and disgraceful" comments, the McCain campaign demanded an apology — though McCain himself used the folksy metaphor a few times last year, including once to describe Democratic Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's health care plan.
The McCain campaign on Wednesday issued an Internet ad that said Obama was talking about Palin and said of Obama: "Ready to lead? No. Ready to smear? Yes."
Obama's campaign has accused the GOP camp of engaging in a "pathetic attempt to play the gender card." The campaign noted two other instances of McCain using the phrase "lipstick on a pig" and its use by other Republicans such as House Minority Leader John Boehner and Arizona Sen. Jon Kyl.

Well IMHO, if it was meant to be some sort of jab at Palin, then it's more sophomoric than anything. Like some snot face little kid telling another kid "I know you are but what am I ?"
How immature and insecure.

don't know... either win Obama wins... looses... or I change my mood... I'd will probably change it before the election... and maybe revert back to Obama theme just before...
The Palin pick seems to have had an effect that benefits McCain... but for the wrong reasons in my opinion... The pick was a good pick in terms of sparking interest in an uninteresting candidate... do I think the pick was the best pick in terms of ability to lead or handle the problems we face... NO... this was a decision based on the politics of the campaign...
In hindsight... if Obama would have clinched the campaign if he had choosen Clinton; however, his decision wasn't based on the politics of the party, now this will be battle... of personality and not a battle of the issues... I am looking forward to the debates.... there should be at least 1-2 this month, but the only one I know of is in Oct with the VP's.

Rylan I can't believe your still responding to these WRONGFUL atttacks on Obama. I applaud Darth for being real and open minded. Its ok when republicans says things but when a democrat says it its over the top. McCain and ---- Cheney have used that same saying. Obama never cried racism when they brought up community organizer, all community organizers are not african american people.

I see the Obama campaign has sent their minions out in force, this must not be playing well

Like I said before I think it's poetic justice after the way the Obama campaign has WRONGLY played the race card on several occasions.

He would be doing alot better if he picked Clinton. That decision was made more by Michelle. Seems she doesn't like Hillary too much.

Not sure, definitely after Nov. 2nd, but depends. To be honest I don't think about it, I never used an avatar till you made my first one if you remember.

It is pretty hard to pinch one off in a suit. That in and of itself means he is qualified to be president.

I applaud anyone that has the guts to catch a pig and put lipstick on it. The first candidate to do that, gets my vote!

the media has turned this comment into exactly what they want it to be. mc cain used the very exact same phrase months earlier in a comment about hillary's health care proposal.
have ya'll listened to the previoius sentences before his lipstick comment he was talking about mc cain's economic policies and said it was just like putting lipstick on a pig, still a pig. how come mccain can say it about hillary's policies but obama can't say it about mccain? mccain's camp turned it into him dissing pallin.

I don't think the McCain camp turned it into anything. I think the crowd there did. And McCain just ran with it.

Anyone who has common sense, who saw at least the 30 seconds before the comment knows that Obama was talking about Mccain's policies.
So you're telling me that by making an ad showing only the pig comment and putting in a headline that says "Obama on Sarah Palin" the Mccain camp didn't turn it in to anything?
I fail to see your logic.
