Uhm yeah what you said sounds good and scientific so I will agree .
Good one!
Yeah, sometimes the objective and scientific way of looking at things and of attempting to analyze unknown possibilities is like way out there and doesn't hit on some of the core importance of the whole Little Green Men concept. The possibility of intelligent life exisitng somewhere other than on our insignificant little planet touches on so many parts of just what it means to be human and to be well, self conscious, to say nothing of the implications for the major organized religions here on Earth. It is hard to distill that whole mysterious question of extra terrestrial life and all its implications for humanity down to an objective equation that can be analyzed objectively and mathematicaly. Doesn't stop us from trying though!
Speaking of what forms intelligent life out there might possibly take, think about this: In order to manipulate their enviornment, whatever and wherever that enviornment may be, any other intelligent life forms will be aware of the same laws of physics that we are, specificaly the four universal forces: The strong nuclear force (governing how atomes are formed by interactions between protons and neutrons), the weak nuclear force (covering nuclear decay), elctromagnetism (covering how atoms and molecules interact with each other in the macroscopic scale), and gravity ( which involves the really macro side of things and will determine the ultimate fate of the universe as we know it). Also known to any other intelligent life would be the Periodic Table of The Elements that you see in every chemistry classroom and lab. these are things that describe, in an objective and precisely defined way just how matter and forces interact in our unverse. The little green men might not be able to understand what we are, but they would have to be be aware of these four forces and of the periodic table of the elements. It am just trying to put out there that regardless of how different, in ways that I can not possibly imagine, other intelligent life forms might be there has to some commonality of knowledge and understanding of how thing work in this universe.
Regarding the phrase Little Green Men, it was coined by astronomers many years ago who observed signals in the sky that were of a strength, frequency, and regularity that when they were first discovered it was immediately assumed that they were the result of the actions of intelligent life somewhere out there. Turned out to be signals from pulsars that are white dwarfs stars rapidly rotating around companion stars in such a frequency and speed as to give the apperaance of electromagnetic radiation given off by some sentient life form.
Imagine what will happen if we do discover an actuial signal from another civilization-I really believe that it will happen in the next fifty years or so and I hope I am arounsd to witness it.
OK, off the soapbox, I have to go clean my tank now.
