Oh, sorry to hear that. Really sucks....my condolences to you and your family. I think that a 10g is the only thing that will fit.

Oh yeah, there might be a change with the lights. Working out a few things, may not go plug n play after all. Haven't decided. I have an offer from a really nice guy who is willing to build it for me. So, we will see......right now I just gotta get this thing drilled lol...

Well, I have been working on this plug n play light design, and I tell you now that it is limiting. It will be hard to mix the whites and blues without a ton of extension wires, which will look like crap. So, I dunno....Frustrated right now. Just got off work and have a major headache. I will figure it out though. I am stubborn!!!

Well, I have had compact, t-5, and metal halide lighting. I like t'5's and metal halides. From what I read, the colors and look of the tank is amazing in comparison. Not to mention that the energy consumption is low. I could just go buy a metal halide pendant, hang it and be done with it. I can not go into the specs like color choices, par, etc, as I am new to the whole led thing, but someone else is more than welcome to chime in. This is something I want to try.

I can't really think of many people who've tried leds and ever went back to anything else from my browsings around. If you're referring to the plug and play diy kits then yeah they are a little more involved than just plug and play. It's a little misleading but it simply means there is no soldering involved. Assembly is definitely required.

I do have a question. Should I drill the overflow on the left side in the back, and the return on the right side in the back? You don't want them too close right? And....what has everyone used to paint the back of the aquarium black?

It's just your preference where the overflow should go. Doesn't matter how close they are.
I use rustoliem or krylon brand paint. Consider painting the bottom of your tank flat white as well. Never know if you want to go barebottom one day.

Most of my tanks the overflow is in the middle. You can put it on either side - I guess it all depends on where the tank is for viewing if you have a good side view you don't want the overflow box right there. I use Fusion Krylon to paint the backs of all my tanks, it is actually safe to use on the inside of a tank, all my overflows and spraybars are painted with it. Good luck

So I guess it should be in the middle then. I just thought putting them too close together would be an issue. Good to know. It will probably be set up in a corner of a spare bedroom. I should be able to pick up the paint today. I already bought the clear rustoleum brand polyurethane to seal the bottom and inside the stand with. So, I am getting there!!

Well, got the stand. Will have to take pics of the set up for you guys. It was not as heavy as I thought it would be....Guess that's ok. I got it now anyway!!!
