Good job luvmyreef - no problem with the return line you can make it go where ever you want with the loc line.

Thanks guys. Next up is the painting. Gonna paint the back black, and the bottom an off white or something to that affect. Will probably do this Saturday. Also, need to put the polyurethane on the stand and bottom. Then, yes, it is design a sump time. I need to measure the inside of the stand and see if a 15g would fit. I think that it would be better than a 10g, but I am not sure on the dimensions yet. Also, still been working on my DIY lighting unit design. I am able to use extensions, etc. so I think I can tweek my original design for the light and mix the colors up more. :)

I can't wait to get this thing up and running. Maybe I can finally have a tank I can enjoy without constant problems...:)

Well, I hope not to have any once it is up and running. Of course I will probably have to make a few adjustments in the beginning, but hopefully nothing major along the way. :)

I'm sure you will be fine.
Looked into skimmers yet? For the money, I definitely recommend the SC65 cone skimmer. It is very efficient and foams really well it's keeping my tank very clean and has a small footprint. Of course, it's an in-sump model skimmer. It's pulling about a cup of dark tea skim ate out of my tank every three to four days now. I'll post a pic if you want.
In fact, that little skimmer is pulling so much gunk out of my water that my halimeda algae seems to be dying back a bit. Lol. It should fit in your 15g sump perfectly and you would still have room for a fuge in the middle.

I am not sure a 15g will fit. I thought it would until I looked up the dimensions. the oak one would, but it would be a tight squeeze length wise. I will consider that skimmer. I definitely want a fuge though. Chaeto grows like crazy for me. :)

Nope, it will not fit. But, did you see the pic of the Toms Aquatic sump I showed you earlier? Why can't I use it? It can be gutted out, it's already has two seperate compartments, all I would need is to put a different skimmer on the one side, add a mag 3 pump and I should be good. I am not sure how many gallons it holds, but it is taller and a little wider than a 10g??? What are your thoughts on it?

I don't remember that sump specifically, but if it works, it works! After all, it's your tank, do whatever you want to with it! lol. If it's a little taller, then sure! If it's made well, I don't see a problem at all.
If the return pump section of it is really small, however, you will have to top off the sump every day to keep your pump running wet. I know I was having a problem with that in my 10g sump . Ever since I set up my auto top off - it's made life soooo much easier.

I think we need a picture ;)

Ha Ha. I just got home from work. I did post a pic earlier of the Toms Aquatic sump. I don't see why I can't use it. Tomorrow I will take everything out of it, and see how it will fit under the stand. Will post pics once I get it done, along with the painted results.....:)

Ok, so I took everything out of it. It is not seperated yet, and it appears to hold less water than I thought. Here is a couple pics. I am not sure, but I think I can use the media baskets to make a partition. I just have to tear them up LOL. Thoughts? Good or bad idea??

Where does the water level stay at?
Exactly what equipment are you going to keep in it? I would think at minimum a skimmer, heater, and return pump... Got any plans for any other equipment? reactors? ATO?
lol, I guess after upgrading from a 10g sump on my 20g high to a 20g long sump - I would hate to go back to something that small again. lol. But hey - you got it, and I think you can make it work for your tank.
Does the return pump fit in the smallest chamber on the left?

I want a skimmer, heater, refugium. They had the pump in the smaller chamber, but I guess I can change it. I would just need to seperate it right? How would you do it? I can still use the 10g sump, but I thought since I had this, why not use it??

Fitting a skimmer and a fuge in that will be really tricky. I don't think I could do it... not in that Mr. Aqua sump or whatever brand it is.
What I would do is get the 10g tank and baffle it with glass and silicone. From left to right... skimmer section (like I said, I highly recommend the SC65 cone, it's doing a GREAT job on my tank and for $80 it's not a bad deal at all. The skimmer is very low profile, since it is a cone and will fit perfectly. In the skimmer section, you would have the overflow dumping water into it, of course. The water would overflow into a refugium/chaeto/whatever section in the center, and then the last section would be tripple baffled before the return pump section. A Mag 3 is low profile too, and will easily fit. The only problem I can see... (with both the 10g sump and that pre-made sump) is that the return pump section is small. That means you will have to top it off almost every single day unless you have an ATO. (which I wouldn't live without now. ) lol.
I'll draw up a diagram and take some measurements if you want me to.

ok, well, I did it anyways... here's a quick diagram of what would work in a 10g sump

I didn't draw where the overflow pipe would come in at, but it would fit in the skimmer section of the sump. I believe you would be MUCH better off baffling that 10g tank than you would be using that pre-made sump.
