Is it the blue string that's out......As Corey mentioned before you order anything why not run through the string with the multimeter.....
Honestly this will tell you exactly what and how many are out....

YES...all blues are out......the other string has blues and white too
The problem with testing it....we still have to take the light apart to get to the leds....this was not built very conveniently
SOOOOO I figured we would only take it apart ONCE....and just try to have here what I could possible need on hand

If you only want to take it apart once perhaps you should look into the drivers that I just picked up. That way in the future when technical difficulties arise you can fall back on either a controler or a POT and not have to worry about it.
I'd go ahead and order more leds, yes. Odds are you're leds are ran in single series if you had one string go out. So that probably means a led somewhere in the string met it's end. You are going to need them. If you re wire the whole system then you can do whatever you want to it at that point and mix match leds like crazy.

Understandable, but rip it apart and test and leave it apart....Why buy unneeded unnecessary parts....
Because it takes me a week to get anything....and once I have it apart......I have NO light at all for this tank...PLUS...every time I order something I pay shipping.....so I might as well have some spares on hand.....JIC......BECAUSE things tend to happen to me all the time

I think if we re-wire it, we will have less issues.....I swear...if you touch the light...the fans go off....LOL.....I'm telling you.....
I'd like to use the drivers already in it if at all possible....Sincce I have to order a power supply anyway...I will throw in some leds too.....might as well

OK...I went ahead and ordered a 10V power supply
4 CREE XP-E Blue 3W LED with 55 degree White Lens
4 CREE XP-E Royal Blue 3W LED with 55 degree White Lens
I just feel better having some on hand, and the whole thing only cost $50....IF I ordered a piece here and there......it will cost me $6-$8 shipping each time

OH YEAH.....We forgot about the adhesive...so first thing this morning I added thermal adhesive to the order...PHEWWWW
I hope this stuff ships quick....would love to fix this light this weekend.....I hate the yellowy look it has :(

The only thing I've seen is a little force has to be used.....Corey and I had wondered/rather discussed that issue way back. I'm pretty sure a screwdriver and a quick blow should loosen them....Who knows, but we'll see shortly.......The other issue raised then would be how to clean the surface of the heat sink to get it smooth again; removing leftover adhesive without causing damage to the heat sink surface....

Some folks that I've seen have said it's easy to remove leds that have been thermal epoxied to heatsink and some have said it's a little bit of work but surely not impossible. Flat screw driver, chisel or something like that seems to be the tool of choice for some. Then you can lightly sand with a fine grit, then very fine then super fine to clean up the spot for re adhesion.

HMMMM.....yup....we shall see.....We don't even know how many....IF....any we have to change

First the light will come off.....then some testing.....re-wiring....etc....you know the deal....I am so hoping we get the parts by Friday (or Saturday) so we can do it this weekend....because then Danny works the next 2 weekends :(

Sounds like micro mesh would be a good choice for cleaning the surface up......

I've pulled LED's with adhesive. Isn't hard. Use channel locks on the outside flats on the star and just twist like you are loosening a bolt, they pop off pretty easy. I've done it with forceps.
