i bought some from that dealer, and thought it was a fair price.. i was going to buy some from someone on -- for a 6"x6" for 2.00 plus shipping
i did the meshmod on my octopus and was pretty easy.. i was told to just make sure you have the big part of the 18lb test zip tie facing away from the pump

You can also use fishing line if your worried about the zip ties, also Lowes sells gutter guard (dont know if its the same) I think it works the same but dont quote me.

I wouldn't. Stick with zip ties or fishing line. The glue may fail at the high speeds and constant force exerted on the spinning mesh, plus it would prob clog up some off the passages that make the mesh mod work so good.

like nike used to say "just do it". i'm gonna do it just like hurt did, by leaving the needles on the pump. that way i don't have to ruin the impeller.
just ordered the enkamat! waiting eagerly for it's arrival. tick tock, tick tock....

The waiting is what kills the most

you dont happen to have a kill-a-watt in order to test the pump stock and then after you modify the impeller? it might be pulling more watts if youre leaving the needles on and then adding the enkamat
luckily, i can find replacement impellers and pumps for my octo. i went ahead and did all of the big mods to it.. boring out a bigger venturi, boring out the elbow, cutting off the first layer of blades, and then adding 2 layers of enkamat to it. im impressed with how the skimmer is performing. ill let it break in and check it in 24hrs
anyhow, good luck with the meshmod. let us know how it goes

this is my skimmer after all the mods: http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v6...0108081504.flv

i drilled a hole on the male thread and put this adaptor. the slit faced the impeller and not the way im showing it

the bit on the left is what i used to drill the hole

i dont know if you can see in this picture, but before you could see what im thinking is the water line all the way up in the cup. the foam would never rise if i had it low. now, with the mods, the riser tube is set really low and the foam is definitely getting up higher without a problem. i dont have pics of what i did to the elbow or the mesh mod, but those were pretty easy to do

Octopus Needlewheel 150 with an Octopus Turbine 2000 pump. its running on my 28g tank, lol. i dont think the foam was even close to that with the meshmod and the elbow being bored out, there were bigger bubbles but nothing close to it after the venturi was modified. once i did the venturi on it was when right away i noticed a difference when it powered up. i put the 1/4"x1/4" adaptor on it and used the 3/8" tubing. luke from -- really helped me out on this. i was really doubting i could do this but it turned out perfect. i couldnt be more satisfied with the way its running now. i wish i had an airflow meter to find out how much air its pulling

i was but i dont want to push my luck. i just got this skimmer like 2 weeks ago and wouldnt want to risk breaking it, lol on one of the octopus skimmer mod threads someone broke his trying to do it. i think i just have to learn to leave things alone if it doesnt need to be fixed; i tend to mess up a lot of things do things like that
what skimmer are you going to be mesh modding?

luke is always posting.
as far as messing up, i screwed up a few of the mjmods, but that was more to my being careless and not taking my time.
