If you want to use a 1" hose, you need to buy a hose barb adapter coupling (not sure if that's the exact technical name for it), that goes from 1/2 to 1" Check your hardware store, they should have all type of adapters.

The Sedra you're talking about is your protein skimmer pump? The skimmer pump and return pump have nothing to do with each other.
For a 75gal tank, I would go with the MagDrive 5 or 7.

your standard setup is 1 inch overflows 3/4 return thats what yours should be. You want to match you return to your overflow rate. A 1" overflow will flow between 600 and 800GPH so you should look for a return that will flow at least 600 GPH at your head. The Quiet one 4000 I am gonna run will flow around 750 GPH at 4ft of head and would run around $80. That is the pump I would run if you want to spend the extra for a Mag Drive I would do a 12(12=1200gph the number in the name is there rate flow with no head)

Yeah I realized that after visiting my LFS. The guy there looked at me like I was retarded and told me the skimmer pump had nothing to do. I picked up a Mag Drive 7.
Chuck you are correct.
Another question for you all. here is my new set up. I will take any all do this do thats

it's a 20 long 30x12x12 Crypt I think you would be better off finding a used 29 for cheap and using it instead same tank just 6 inches taller(30x12x18)

Skimmer first, then fuge son
no. Everybody I have talked with says you want your cheato to get as much nutrients as possible. That way it will grow and break it down more. Then your skimmer picks up the rest. If you have skimmer first the cheato doesnt get as much to grow.

That's cutting it close. If the tank is 12" tall and your water level is 7", that's only 5" from the top, not to mention the fuge water level is almost at the top of the tank. It's doable but remember when/if you turn your return pump off or you have a power outage, some water from the DT will drain into the sump. You don't want to overflow it.
I agree with Chuck, a 29 would be better. If not, I think this will work, it's just cutting it kinda close.

40 breeder is a good buy for $50 I don't know if it will fit in your stand though. It would however make an awesome reef tank

Also I honestly would go a bit bigger on your return you will only have 500gph at 3 ft of head

I was responding to the wrong person and thread. Someone was going diving at Belize and Casa Mya. It was late (for me). I was clarifying Costa Maya in southern Mexico. Sorry.

Right thread, wrong person. Cobra was diving. Lucky !@*. I went snorkeling and if I coulda just got another 5' down...But I did see a very rare (according to the snorkel guy) horned cowfish. He said he'd never seen one in all his years there, but a few folks like me had told him they saw them. The coral there in Costa Maya is HUGE.

a mag 9.5 or quiet one 4000 would both be in the flow range you want around 800gph at 3 ft

That wont empty my sump at a faster rate then gravity fills it? I need to make sure. I will go get a bigger pump and pay the difference.

You can install a valve on your return line and slow down the flow if too much.
