what would you suggest for spot feeding? algae tablets or the seaweed paper or what? he did already eat all my algae on my rocks i dont want him to get bored and start terrorizing my little mushroom!

so... does anybody know what the little teeny tiny white things on my glass are? they ALMOST look like newborn baby snails or something. but there are tons of them! Are they good things? i tried to get a pic but they just look like bubbles in the water. so the pic is no good. ANYBODY?

I joined a club called Dallas Marine Aquarium Society (DMAS). The vice pres of the club gave them to me for joining up. The people are really nice too! My Big tank is officially trash and they are helping me find a new one.
On a brighter note: I finnaly got a fish for my tank!
He's only 4 mos old and smaller than a nickel! He eats like a pig too! Here's a pic.

Off to a great start! Nice new addition to the tank. We added a perc just a few weeks ago.

i've been having a problem with having a lid on my tank. i needed the lid because my light is so much shorter than the width of the tank that even the feet that hold the light up off the water wern't long enough to fit. so i had to come up with another way to suspend the light over the tank. Now, i know this isn't the most beautiful set up but it's secure, strong, and serves its purpose. check out what i did.

yeah, but that still poses a problem with getting into the tank easily. if i did the eggcrate and let the light sit on that, then i'd still have a problem with moving the light around and then the eggcrate. so i had to have it hover over the tank somehow. that way i could get in and do things without turning the light off or trying to get under a lid. it's working great right now. i'm acclimating a baby starfish and it's just super easy now.

The baby starfish is waaayyy too small to get a good pic of him. if you look at your pinky fingernail, he's smaller than that! i'm hoping he'll grow big and strong and i can put him in my 90 gal when its done cycling.
On another note: My mushroom is splitting I think. Tell me what you guys think. Here are some pics.

They are an incredibly good bunch at DFWMAS. I gave a talk there about a year and a half ago
Very nice and very active group! Stick with those guys, you will learn a lot!

Are you sure you don't have an Asterina star, or micro brittlestar? THose all stay very small...and they are very hardy. I have never seen a species in the trade that is sold so small. You may want to search for Asterina and see if that is what you have?

i like those guys alot too. i'm already learning and they are helping me with my first ever 90gal reef. anyways, about the starfish..... i got him from a member of dallasmas. he bought some sand from somebody and got it home to find it was full of baby stars. he said they are sandsifting stars. he had quite a few of them i just got to pic the one that had all its legs for free!

I think that they are Asterina stars (if a starfish) and micro brittlestars (if, well brittlestars :) ). These are very common hitch hikers. Asterina stars will not get larger than you described, and often have 6-8 arms (of unequal size). They are often described as "baby sand sifter" stars but believe me, you don't want any of the true sand sifter stars as sold in a clean up crew.

Just an FYI....The SPS corals in that tank will likely die or brown out under the PC's hopefully your new tank will have a better lighting system such as T5's or halides. Good looking out though on the tank! It's coming along quite well.
An Ophiura I wish I would have remembered that you live in HOUSTON! I was there working a couple weeks ago. Would have loved to hear if there were any good salty places to check out!
