MY Tank Build Diary!

You sure it's not just sand blowing around? It usually takes a day or two for the water to clear up after you first fill it so yes it could be because of the flow. Do you have a way to run some mechanical filtration?

Corey the thing is if I turn off the Pump for the sump it goes away and there are no Micro bubbles in the tank then, and no I have no mechanical filtration in the tank I done have a HOB filter that I can use. LOL I didnt get one because I was using the sump. Well I am going to wait for a few days and see what Happens, might just have to go with one overflow until I can get a larger pump. It looks like its snowing in the tank with micro bubbles. I just dont know why its doing it. I could shut off a few of the Power heads and see what happens then.

When u say snowing scott it makes me think sand as well! Ur sure its not those two powerheads down by the sand?!?! Give it some time to run all the o2 out of the lines as well! Maybe check it out in the morning?~?~

I dunno I think I am just going to leave it alone and let it run for a few days and see what happens, if I am still getting all the micro bubbles then I will try some other solutions to fix the problem. I will keep everyone updated on how things are going!!

Yes already took care of the 2 power head that were towards the bottom they are now up at about mid level on the side panels of the tank. maybe its from the sand or something going to give it a few days to settle out and see what happens then. It up and running so I am happy always have time to fix other problems along the way..

Well, just Threw 2 frozen Raw Shrimp in the tank to get the cycle started I think I will take a piece or 2 of the live rock from my QT tank and put that in the 75g also to get it going. Then maybe this next weekend I will order the 25# of live rock to put in the tank in hopes that in 4 weeks the tank will be cycled and I can put my 2 clowns in there..

Just wanted to update everyone on the tank. I think thanks to Corey, Al, 1guydude and otherunderbrink I have figured out my Micro bubble problem. I had to change out the Pump to the smaller pump I had because the larger one when the water lvl in the return section of the sump got to low from evaporation it was getting air into it and therefore causing micro bubble hell in the tank. I think judging by the water lvl in the sump tonight when I got home I am losing about 1 gal of water a day due to evaporation. I think that maybe I would have been better off going with one return back into the tank and I feel that maybe if I do this I might be able to go with the bigger pump. I will think on this and decide. For now I think that I will just leave the smaller pump in there for now, until I figure out what I want to do. Anyway enough about this how about a pic of the tank as it looks today and on yeah you can see the raw shrimp I put in the tank to help it cycle. LOL

Gotta keep that water level up.
Didn't even think to ask that one but you're right, that will/does happen when the water level gets to low for whatever pump you're running.

Yeah, Figured that one out Corey and I think that will the 2 returns that its taking to much water out of the return section of the 20G Long sump, that is why i can not use the rio 2100, Might have to re think using 2 returns on the tank and go to one so I can use it. Not sure what I am going to do yet, but I have time to decide. Thanks again for all your help, I am sure I am going to have more questions along the way...

Actually the 2 returns would have been helping more than they were hurting in this case. With the two returns/lines on there it meant there was a lot more back pressure on the pump so the pump was actually pumping less. With 1 return it would have pumped more/faster so the bubbles probably would have been worse.
Anytime, Scott!

Well if the smaller pump works maybe I will just leave it as is then. I think I have good water movement in the tank, so I think I will see how things work out then go from there.. Just need to get this thing cycled, that is my main focus now... lol

Yeah I hope there is enough water movement in the tank with what i have. lol I already did make the tank tonight so I know how much water I am losing a day, to se eif I will need to top it off more than once a day. Maybe at some point I will get a auto top off, but need to get the live rock and skimmer first..

LOL +1 on the skimmer and rock! I wanna get every lil thing i need before i go putting all my stuff together for mine...im sure i will forget something though....
i think u can get an auto top off relatively fair price! Like $30....someone correct me if im wrong!
Hows the dead rock? Im more of a LR kinda guy...only thing ive used really!

Its good I will show you comparison pics of the rock, the pieces in my QT were dead rock like the other and now you can see what it looks like after being in there since like Jan or Feb I think..
This Rock

Is what this rock looked like back then

So I think it colored up nice in that amount of time. The Dry Rock I bought was Fiji Dry Rock and the other Bright white stuff is Reef Saver Dry Rock.

Nope it will cycle in the tank and thats the good thing about it, you can add it after the tank is cycled because its not live so it will not cause and mini cycle and its a fraction of the cost of live rock. I got 85# of it for 130.00 and that was with shipping. It will turn live and be a nice color in about 4 to 6 months.

That piece I just showed you and one other piece in that QT are going to go in the DT tonight. To help the cycle in the tank also.
