Ridiculed not in a million years, that is why I am here is to learn. I have 20# of live sand in the tank, and 2 raw shrimp that have been in the tank since last night. I just added the 2 pieces of the rock which is live now from being in the QT since it was set up, The raw shrimp is how I cycled the QT when i first started it. If I wanted to I could take some of the Filter Floss out of the HOB filters that are in the QT and and add it to the Sump on the 75g. I have many way I could cycle the tank. I have all my bases covered.. I wanted to be prepared that is why It has taken me 2 years to get this thing set up. See my Join date that is when I first started researching SWF tanks. BTLD is the first person that I ever really talked to on here, and Meowzer was the second.. LOL

Looks great Scott! I never really understood why add live rock to a newly cycling tank. Won't the ammonia kill everything off? Common sense has attacked me once again. (Salt water is not common sense, well most of it) Lol...

Yes, well I never understood it either, until I did the research on it. The concept from what I have read that is the die off that you have from the live rock will help kick start the Ammonia in the tank and you will have some of the biological bacteria that you need to help process that Ammonia in the tank. Yes, I agree that it sometimes is not common sense. I have kept fresh water tanks in the past, and have had no problems, but Saltwater is a whole different world. I think that is why I have taken so long to set the tank up.
Also thanks for the compliment, I just hope that my tank will be up to the standard to other tanks that I have seen on this forum.

Scott I'm just curious but could you show me a picture of the pump that you had in there before? I think there is a way you could run it without the micro bubble issue by putting an elbow on the intake and turning it downwards.

that made more sense then what I originally read almost 2 years ago. As long as YOU like you aquarium that is all that matters. I'm sure everyone will love it.

I will post a pic of it when I get home from work tonight for you to see it. I was thinking maybe I could do something like that with it.

Thanks, yeah sometimes stuff makes sense and sometimes in this hobby it does not, but then someone explains it in a way where you go, "OH now I get it!"

Scott I believe that front cover on those pumps is removable. Take a look at the pic below and how it's illustrated with a typical style strainer on it. If you went with that it would probably help. And if that was not enough you could remove the strainer and install a pvc elbow and point the elbow down to draw water right off the bottom of the tank.

yep the front cover does come off it and it has all different parts that came with it, so I just might take your suggestion and do that. The tank is still a little cloudy, I was wondering if I should get a filter sock or us a ladies nylon as one on the drain pipe into the fuge, also could I throw some carbon in the sump also to help clear up the water, or would that be bad to do since its a new set up?

Scott...your pump looks just like my Catalina 3000's that I use for water changes.....I think I may try taking the cover off and making an elbow adapter on the one I use in the trash can....I can never get the bottom of the pail out the way it is....LOL
thanks guys :)

Your welcome, hey do you think that with my tank being cloudy that I should put on a nylon on the drain to catch some of the stuff floating around, and maybe throw some carbon in the sump to help polish the water, or would that be bad because its a new set up?

carbon won't hurt anything....do you have all those PH's on? You really don;t need all of them on yet

YES I DO...LOL....really there is no sense running them...so why waste the electricity, and make sure they are not blowing anything around too
LOL, Ok I just turned 2 of them off and they are not blowing any sand or anything around, that I can tell. I will leave 2 of them off and see what the tank looks like tomorrow. Thanks Meowzer, and I think I might throw some carbon in the sump also, like you said cant hurt, nothing in the tank yet, except a couple of raw shrimp. LOL

wow Scott, everything looks good! Just asking here but do you really need all that flow? You have some big PH's in there? You would think it's like a tsunami in there or the E.A.C.

Meowzer beat me to it, I was going to suggest turning off some of the powerheads as well.
Looks good Scott!
