Ah the joys of new tank hood. It probably will get worse before it gets better. Should go away though once the silicates that it feeds off of have been consumed.

Well once the diatoms begin to disapear then the next thing to keep an eye out for is gha looking to move in and take it's place. Typically that too should fade as long as your flow, filtration, feeding methods and clean up crew are all in order.

Thats good to know, I am going to test Params again tonight to see where I am with it, but things in the tank are moving right along. I really hope that I dont get GHA, that would totally stink.. lol When should I increase the flow with the other power heads that I have in the tank only 2 of them are on now should I turn the others on or still wait?

I was fortunate. I have never had to battle the infamous GHA, so Scott you might not have to either. I did battle a bit of cyano and dino, but that was due to my stupidity. Nice to see your tank progressing normally!

Yep, when I first purchased my 120 and moved it from the old owners house to ours the tank went through another cycle and I ended up with a bunch of it after about a month. And then in another month it subsided, mostly with the help of my urchin. After that all was good and I tore the tank down, but have moved my 50g twice now and have never had gha comback using the same rock and sand.

That is encouraging I am glad that I might not have a problem with it, so I ask again should I still leave the extra 2 power heads off in the tank for now or should I turn them back on?

I don't see any harm in saving the extra electricity for now. But it's your call. Maybe kick on the 3rd for a week and then go all 4. For me I think it would just depend, as long as their not creating a sand storm then it's fine. Even then you should be able to move them or adjust them to where that won't happen.

Me neither....it was awful....I hated looking at the tank :( and I literally picked bunches out every night after work, and what seemed like all weekend long...along with multiple water changes
BUT those days my blennie was a fatso :( NOW NO GHA....and my blennie died....
Honestly, I swear by the New Life Spectrum pellets. I don't have any gha either and my blennie loves those things. He will eat the frozens foods to and chow on the sheets as well. But once I drop a few pellets in there he's all over them like white on rice. And by the looks of his belly he's in no danger of starving. Sucks about your fish Meow. Maybe he was just sick from something else. Maybe he got cancer or something, ya never know.

OMG, Meowzer you were right about it getting worse before it gets better. All I have to say is YUCK. The sand is now covered with brown and a lot more on the rocks. I think it looks so YUCKY. I sure hope that some of it will go away. Here are a few pics:

I hope this Green Algae is ok. Its only growing on a few of the rocks (like 4 of them and only the Fiji Dead Rock)
