I think I said this to you before, but set your heater at 80. The fluctuation is what causes problems, 80-81 is fine.

he was much brighter when i got him at the store.. he was stressing when i brought him home.. acclimated him for 20 minutes by swapping water .. etc.. and now hes been in that corner for the passed 30 minutes.
as far as putting my heater to 80.. i did try that before and my tank went wayyy to hot ..

Don't go off what the heater says, you have to keep fine tuning it until you get it where you want it. I think mine says it is at 78, yet it never goes below 80, fwiw. Next time you get a fish, you should try drip acclimating him, IMO, it is much less stressful to the fish. Generally fish at the lfs have a much lower specific gravity reading than what we keep a normal reef tank at. When I bring fish home, the water is usually 1.019-1.021, and I keep my tank at 1.025-1.026

Nice looking clown, once he gets settled in he will color up some more.

i agree with you. I didnt have much time for the drip acclimation as i was working today and decided to grab him on my lunch but yes for more sensitive fish i will be doing that.
As far as the salt water goes, eh i k now this is no excuse but i use the same salt water they use at the LFS.. i buy my water from him.
regardless i have been fine tuning my heater ever since i got it but lately i guess the office temp ahs changed a bit which is fluctuating my tank.. *nothing to crazy tho.. just 3 degrees up and down in a matter of 8 hours..

question on my moonlights. I NEVER turn them on since my tank is in the office. My daylights are on a timer to go on at 7am and turn off at 2pm.. but my moonlights are never on .. they are off the same switch as my daylights ar eon.. its not the same as the aqua pod which have 2 different outlets.. 1 outlet takes care of ur daylight/nightlight so i cannot set my other on a timer.. its just a switch... do i need those to be on at nights?

That is too much. 2 degrees maximum.

Moonlights are not needed, essentially they are there so we can see into the tank.

It could be the room temperature of the office thats not helping you. I noticed when my room temp was mid 70s, the tank would heat up a couple degrees when the lights were on for long. Now its getting colder, my room temp is mid 60s, my lights were on all day today and it didnt budge at all. I have my heater set at 77 and so far it has been sticking at the temp even with the lights on.
Is your tank near a window, or heat vent or anything like that?
Moonlights are great for viewing critters that only come out at night. I see most of my tank activity at night, worms, shrimp, crabs, amphipods...

I again adjusted the heater so lets see how she does today, and ive left the feeder door open today.. whenicame in the tank was at 81 degrees.. prior to lights so i turned the heat down AGAIN.
ever since ive thrown the fsh in the tank its stayed on the left side back of the tank the entire time.. hasn't dareddd to come to the right side or even in the middle of the tank behind the rocks or anything.. i don't know if hes territorial, scared?.. who knows.. hope he comes wondering around in the tank soon.
As far as feeding him goes, does half a cube of mysis shrimp sound to much?.. i want to feed her today. Should i jsut throw the rest of it away?.. or should i refreeze it in a cup?

That is way too much. A cube will usually last me about 5-6 feedings, and I have 2 fish and spot feed my corals.

really? wow .. ok so ill just chop off a little chunk... anyway to reuse it?
ps the clown came out to playyy when the lights came on.. w00t w00t.. i thought the current from my korallia 1 was to strong so i turned it off but it looked like he was still struggling.. i guess thats jsut how he swims.. turned her back on and its been fine.. she comes out every so often for a quick swim.

love the clown... Mine like to play in the K1 current. swims right in front of it and rides the current around the tank... pretty funny to watch

Imagine cutting the frozen cube in 4 parts, then cutting those parts in half. So from one cube, you have 8 small chunks. Try feeding one of those to your clown and see if its enough or too much. You can add a little tank water in a glass and put the chunk in to thaw quickly and just pour it into the tank. You can refreeze the rest, put them in a little baggy or stick them back into the frozen food package.

The only I thing that I would add is once the shrimp are thawed and floating in the cup of tank water, I like to strain them out using a net. This prevents all the garbage that they are frozen in to not get into your tank. I hope that made sense.

+1 I used to do that with my freshwater years ago. thanks for the reminder Subie, forgot to include that step.

this damn thing is impossible to cut.. i just put it in a cup.. and im going to freeze the water? and use as much as i need and put the rest back into the freezer to re-freeze.. would that be ok?

haha good question. The cube should be easy to cut, just let it sit outside of the freezer for a couple minutes to thaw a little, use a sharp knife and it will cut easily
I have never let a full cube thaw into a liquid and then refroze it. Sounds like it could be a pain to reuse it and i dont know 100% if is ok to reuse. Just use my method above, it makes it real easy.
