What do you guys think about this 'death sentence' NASCAR gave Carl Long for running an illegal engine during trials at the All-Star race? This is the explanation of the infraction:
When Long went to a backup engine for last weekend's Sprint Showdown, NASCAR officials discovered his primary engine was larger than the allowable 358.000 cubic inch displacement. Long's engine measured 358.170.
.17, the size of a small hair. Please tell me how this would assist this guy who basically hasn't been a contender since what, 2006? We're not talking about a Top 50 driver here. I think they went a little overboard on this one.

hopefully they hold him over the barrel.
Pastiguages aren't that hard to use...
I'm just kidding.

Yea it is overboard. There shouldn't be leniency in fines/penalties, but discretion. The problem is that this is the same penalty that would be levied against any team. While $200,000 is a drop in the bucket to Hendrick/Roush, etc, it doesn't make sense against Carl Long.

My problem with it is the displacement is only over by .17. If I recall from the story, NASCAR checked this engine after it blew while he was running trials for the All Star race. What's to say a cylinder didn't expand when the motor crapped out? Have they checked and verified the accuracy of the instruments they use to perform this measurement? I don't know the entire procedure for checking the displacement of an engine, but can they get it that accurate? How much wear and tear has occurred on this engine since the last time it was checked? The article states it was a second-hand engine that was originally built by Ernie Elliott for Chip Ganassi Racing when its teams ran Dodges, said it had been a former restrictor plate engine that had also been used for testing and ARCA competition. If I was a driver/owner, and I bought an engine from a reputible builder, knowing it had been used previously in a sanctioned NASCAR event in a car that was signed off by NASCAR, why would I spend the time and money to verify the displacement?
I guarantee you if this engine would've ended up in Junior's, Stewart's, Busch's, or any of the Top 25 drivers, they would've received a warning and fine a tenth of what Long is being hit with. Can you imagine NASCAR suspending Junior or Gordon for 12 races over this? The stands in the last races of the year would be left half empty. NASCAR couldn't give tickets away.

Well that was a crappy race, even though I moved up in points. Just glad I wasn't a fan that had to sit thru that all weekend.
On another note, I hear Hendrick is considering replacing Jr.'s crewchief (Tony Eury, Jr.). Normally I would oppose this, but with four Hendrick cars supposedly being equal, somethings not working for the 88 team.

That's funny, just yesterday I was telling my wife how bad Eury must be. Jr. does so much worse than all the other Hendrick drivers, his car looked dreadful yesterday.

POCONO's!
I hope everybody remembered to changed their drivers this week. Many of us didn't last weekend.
Let's race!

Remembered my drivers, but another mandate performance..... So who's not running Carl this week?

So what does everyone think of Kyle Busch smashing the guitar he won in the Nationwide race?

A lot of people have compared it to rockstars smashing their guitar on stage. However the big difference is their guitars, they bought. This was a trophy, that Sam Bass spent who knows how long making.

I still can't believe he did it. That shows absolutely not respect for such a custom, handmade piece. Price for that guitar is $25K-$30K. When they interviewed Sam Bass, he couldn't believe this happened. If he had known it's going to happen, he would have given Kyle a cheaper, off the shelf guitar to smash.

I think Mayfield or (if you like conspiracy theories) NASCAR is up to something...
Read down into the story. Apparently they called Mayfield and said be here in 2 hrs for testing. And he stalled saying there was no way. So they said fine where are you go here. And then he "got lost." But on the way went and got "independently" tested at a lab his lawyer told him to go to. So then he went home, and NASCAR was at his house. And after an hour he FINALLY whipped it out in front of the testers and the NASCAR official and gave a sample...

Sounds like the story is starting to slip away from Mayfield....
That was the first time I heard what the substance was... Meth... Classy choice
....

I know Mayfield isn't a top tier driver but Meth? I would hope he could afford a better class of drug. Dunno, He should have offered up a hair sample to confirm his innocence. They supposedly test hair to find traces if someone used regularly.

I've read that nascar plans on testing hair samples... If he plans on getting back on the track.

I missed the wreck...only caught bits and pieces of the race on the radio at work.
Sorenson hit a tire wall just right, and came out of their spinning like a top. Right into the field. Not a slide spin, but just sitting there spinning in the middle of the road. And he had cars bouncing off of him. It looked bad.

Our league has fallen apart, did this happen last year too?
Good day for KJR though, I swept the 2 road courses
And Smoke won
But can't catch up to Spidey

I started out OK but once I missed that a couple of my drivers had expired I haven't been able to recover. I think I like the league better where you draft 4 drivers for the season then select 3 of those to run each week
I just hope someone other than team cheat wins the championship this year. I like JJ but despise his crew chief.
