Do neither one of you remember? we argued about it at work all day, but we couldn't remember which track had to share pit boxes?

She is the lifelong nascar fan, I've only been watching for a few years. So yes.

WRONG! I've only been into Nascar since 2001. I'm more of a lifelong Rally Racing and Formula 1 fan :) I come from Europe and Nascar was never really shown on even satellite channels.

About 15 years ago we were on a trip in Germany. (Wife's business trip) Jorg was talking to me about NASCAR and he was saying that Audi was doing really well there. I just said yes and changed the subject. Of course we could talk about Michael Schumaker (SP?) all day long.

HEHEHE right... Audi and Nascar in the same sentence! Chumi as we call Michael is a piece of work. I've never been a fan... I'm a diehard Mika Hakkinen fan, once he quit other Finns took his place. Now Kimi is MY man!

Call me what you want, but I love the bumping and grinding, way more than I love an open wheeled car. The first race I ever went to was an open wheel race, and it didn't grab me. (It might have helped that i went when someone at church asked if I wanted to go watch a race that afternoon, it was at texas and we sad through a 4 hour rain delay with one of those cold texas winds where their is nothing but a barb wire fence between you and the north pole.) but regardless When I went to a nascar race I got hooked. But I am going to cart/irl whatever they are now race in houston this year.

Since you guys are digging up old facts, anyone know where Richard Petty's (THE KING) very first race was? I doubt Spidey even knows this one

I can appreciate the cars of F1, they are amazing. The racing is just not very competitive. But oh to drive one of those cars. WOW.
Now the guys that are h_rdcore are the Rally drivers. Go as fast as you can on a dirt road and hairpin turns while the guy beside you reads from a list what is coming up next. That takes some guts.

...and I'll give you a heads up, it was in 1958, but not in South Carolina as anything you goo gle might suggest

I do knot know where it was, but I am sure that they drove the car to the racetrack. In fact I remember him telling a story about how they drove a car to the track, wrecked it and had to hitch hike home. That wasn't his first race was it?

I won't let this go on all day, it's not that important, but yes, it was not far off from the moonshine days. His father is highly suspected of running shine and that's probably what got the family into racing. But to be official, it was my home town in 1958, on a dirt track at the NC State fairgrounds in Raleigh, NC. I have relatives that still tell the story.
Okay...so that's my tidbit for the evening.

That's cool. Junior Johnson freely admits that he was a moonshiner.
T3, you need to post more pictures of your tank on your mantis thread.

Come on, cut young Knight a break. He searched far and wide to order his mom a birthday present the day before her birthday and he had to pay for it with the money that was given to him for placing third in a contest.

BTW tonight is the deadline again. So how will it shape up for Bristol this week? Where you can go from leading the pack to in the garage with a little nudge at the wrong time.
Hey! I had to pay some of it myself!

Spidey, it was literally a toss up with those two. I figured black would be a little warm down in Ft. Lauderdale very soon. Worst case, it could double as UM attire.
