Wow, this has turned out to "the topic" as of late. This is a pretty diverse group, curious to your thoughts on the pat downs and scanners.

For them
I find it distasteful, but not as distasteful as diving out of the skies in a ball of flames, while trying to go on vacation.

I have not traveled in a while....I do not care for it, BUT....as Renee said.....I would rather get to my destination rather then burn up in a plane...
so I guess IDC....NOW when I finally get to go somewhere....I'll let you know....CAUSE not just anyone is gonna pat me down

Then it gets even more funny. Any see Napolitano's emphasis on the same gender searches, (she said it like 3 times as an insulation from sexual contact... The next logical step would be to ask the sexual preference of the TSA agent... Can you imagine that politically correct can of worms that would open.
"I want to make sure the guy grabbing my
isn't gay." Or better yet, "I'm gay can I have an opposite gender patdown. By a gay TSA agent."
I need to find my box of popped corn, because their are so many ways to tweak conventional wisdom with the way the argument is unfolding...

I could care less who is patting me down and how nekkid i have to get to get on a plane. If a gay man is patting me down, I seriously doubt he is going to get a stiffy from this. Even if he does, thanks for the compliment! As long as everyone else has to do the same thing, who cares? Is your personal privacy worth your life? Grow a backbone people!

See, I was coming back from Minneapolis about a month ago and was selected for a pat down. So me, being the funny guy I am, decided to have a little fun with it.
As the TSA agent went down there, I gave a nice, fake, almost porn-like "Ohhhhh baby". And then said "I hope you're taking me out for breakfast and a cigarette".
Yeah, that landed me with the supervisor who gave me a nice old fashioned lecture about how "our job is hard enough without people like you making light of the situation".
Have we all lost our sense of humor?!? Sheesh

Heh, when I was chosen for the special search, remove shoes and whatnot - stand in the blowers, i made sure my dress shirt came up a bit in the breeze. Being the fat man that I am it didnt look pretty. THe security people gave me some looks and I replied,"Its ok people. I am a shed builder. When you have a tool like mine, you have to build a shed over it to keep it dry." A few chuckles could be heard and I walked on to my gate smiling all the way.

I fly enough to know the scans and the pat downs don't bother me. What drives me nuts is the family ahead of me in line that have never flown before and don't have anything organized so security checks take way too long and then the kid behind me kicks the back of my chair the entire way!

Two things...
First, I don't mind the measures that are in place now, but where is the end going to be? What we have now, is a respond to the terrorist technology now. As they advance, I'm sure some of the security measure will have to increase as well. I don't think many people would be willing to 'drop 'em and spread 'em" to fly.
The second thing, and the one that's got me pissed, is that I just heard on the radio that the current administration is about to cave on the Muslim women issue. They would not only be exempt from body scans, but their pat-down would only consist of the head and neck.
So what's the point then? Any Muslim women, or anyone pretending to a Muslim woman, would breeze right through. WHAT THE &*%($&% even bother? Either everyone does it, or no one does it.

Wouldn't that take the cake. The people who caused all this to begin with, don't get checked, because of religon (why they caused all this to begin with). That would be liberal logic for you wouldn't it...

For myself, I wouldn't care either way. However after hearing some of the stories, I would have a hard time standing by and watching someone pat down/grope my wife or child. I already have a plan to avoid this. My family will be purchasing Burkas and a few copies of the Koran.

You cant exclude a group of people from basic security scans like that. Muslim women should be put through all the same checks as everyone else. It is a basic flaw in the security that would be taken advantage of. If that actually goes through, what is the punishment for refusing to get on a plane with muslim women? Your just basically out the $ for the ticket. Good lord, it looks like I am going to have to drive my family everywhere. So much for seeing hawaii or australia.

They do it all the time, all under the guise of non-discrimination. Profiling is illegal...
