Hey, i dont know wether to say its cool or its just alright...the idea of him is awesome, and the way he moves, eats, roams is cool. But i have been watching the videos and it looks like he just wants to stick on the glass...IMO i think it ruins the aquarium, when you see in the upper right hand corner a sleeping octopus...maybe he's just hanging out in the refuge...sure would like to see it in a larger tank. I thought about an octopus a few times.

NO..I didn't get the tank last week  It is now going to be delivered Saturday. Here are a couple pictures of what it looks like with the sump and filtration system. The chiller is located behind the canister filters.
From what I have read, it isn't a good idea to keep two octopi in the same tank. Size of tank might be large but it gives me a lot of options for down the road...

I thought that he would. The damsels have a lot of room to hide in all of the calupra and it doen't leave much open space for the octopus to swim. I am assuming that is why he is always on the sides of the tank. Then again, he might just be lazy and likes to be fed with the feeder stick. A meal delivered rather than having to work for it... :notsure:

I did watch that video..You don't have to worry about me putting my hand in the tank. Feeder stick works just fine

I had a pacific dwarf (Sparky) for a few months and he was unable to catch fish or my cleaner shrimp. He would get pissed and throw tantrums (liverock) for a week before he just ignored them. Come to think of it, he acted the same as my Northern Diamondback Terrapin does with his tankmates. Sparky played a game with me when I was on my computer with my back to him. He would stick his tentacles outside of the tank and if I turned my head, he'd pull them back in. At night, he would hangout on top of the lightstrip and I would find dried up salt puddles as evidence in the morning. His favorite toys were a red and white fishing bobber, plastic coke bottle with lid on and fiddler crab inside (he would open it and go inside for a snack) and a chopstick for a game of tug-o-war. I had to get rid of him after he came out for a stroll when the fiance was on the computer, it was too much for her to handle!
Needless to say, I didn't end up marrying her.

I finally got the tank delivered and set up in the office.
The first picture shows one of the locking tops which are quite secure.
The second photo shows a removeable divider I had built that can easily be removed. My thought being here is that I can use the divider and have the octopus in one side and something on the other, or it can be removed to give the octopus the full tank to roam and play. Tomorrows project is to start filling the tank and check for any leaks.

That's a really slick tank design. I'm going to have to vote for Mantis on one side and cephalopod on the other. That should make for some interesting meetings at the divider. :jumping:

an octo would cream the mantis shrimp. We put a 3" mantis with a 6" octo and the octo ate him in like 5 minutes. So cool. Dont forget to post pics for us to aww at

I really REALLY want to get an octopus, but I can find very little information about the care and feeding of them.
Here's what I do know:
need at least a 50 gallon tank
octopus is only inhabitant
for food they will eat anyting and everything
krill, crabs, fish.......
they are very intelligent and are great escape artists
they need a hidey hole
and keep a tight lid on the tank
sooooooo......what am I missing?
and where can I getmy hands on an octopus in the first place????? :notsure:

I found a lot of information at www.tonmo.com. There is a lot of information regarding cephalopods that will answer many of your questions.
I got mine from this site. Very happy with my purchase and price. Think that it is one of the best deals you can find.

The new tank is ready and waiting for Crush to move in. Water parameters are perfect and all I need to do now is move a few pieces of rock into the tank. Starting out, I am going to keep the divider in the tank and see how he does in half of his new home. :jumping:
