Thank you! By far, the most fascinating creature I have ever kept in a tank.

Octo's are incredible! IMO the most fascinating creature you can get to put into a tank. I've been thinking about creating a smaller tank connected to my reef set-up just for an octopus. Too bad they don't live very long.
:help:
Hey saltfreak4 what kind of clown fish is that in your avatar? Looks like a true percula but with a lot of white body markings. Very cool looking.

What is the expected life span of an octopus????? In the wild life is short. The male dies after mating, and the female dies after the eggs hatch. There is a female actopus in the mall of america's aquariums that has been there for 4 years. She's huge! So what are the biggest problems with the care of these magnificent animals, besides being excape artists!

Clyde apparently doesn't like the cleaning magent in his tank. Took me by surprise the first time, so I grabbed the camera and shot this video. Their speed is amazing.. Click on the image to view the video.

I just want to say

Clyde may not live for 50 years, but that is one very cared for, and I dare say spoiled Octopus. I myself will never be able to have one, but have enjoyed and appreciate you sharing your experience with the rest of us. Thank you so much again, I love the videos and have gone to the sites mentioned throughout the thread what amazing creatures they are. So if the question posed is "what's the point". Here is the point " WE LIKE IT!! IT's COOL!! GOODWIN and CLYDE ROCK!! that's the point.
Go clyde it's your birthday :cheer:

Thank you BAYMONKEY
You have probably summed it all up. I wished that I could say that I still have every every fish, coral and invertebrate, I have bought in the last two year still thriving in my tanks, but I can't. No quarantee that they will live forever.
I've had a lot of people look at my various tanks, and the ones that they watch and enjoy most, are the octopi. I even find my self spending more time with them, rather than the other tanks. How many other people on this forum can say that they are always on the lookout for new TOYS
for their inhabitants in their tanks.
Go to the toy section in WalMart and when the clerk comes up to ask if they can help you find something, tell them you are looking for a toy for your Octopus. See what type of reaction you get....
caz2022
is building a hampster maze for his Octopus (thanks for the idea). I haven't read a thread were someone has done this for one of their fish?? (I can hardly wait to see his video).
I knew going in the Octopi don't live for ever. I have read that my particular Octopus may live 1 to 2 years, so I am going to enjoy, be amazed, and learn from the two that I have.
I am working at ways to improve the quality of video to be able to share my experience with other people on this forum who may not be able to keep one of these animals for what ever reason. You just don't get one and throw it in the tank with everything else.
I hope that people reading this thread might come up with ideas to keep Crush & Clyde intelligently challanged. I am open for ideas from all.
I certainly hope that a year from now I am still posting videos of Clyde & Crush and sharing what they have "learned".

Yeah...Life is short, enjoy it while it lasts...... :happyfish and spoil you octopi while your at it!!!! They are incredible critters. How old are Clyde and Crush, and what species are they. How big do they get???(sorry if this was posted earlier and I missed it)

have Clyde and Crush tried to open the lid???? I watched a National Geographic special awhile back that was about a Marine Miology tech lab, among the species they were studying was an octopus(I forgot the type) One of the lab's tanks started loosing fish. There was no sign of bodies..nothing. People began to suspect someone was stealing them, but why? So one night one of the techs set a camcorder. What they saw in the morning blew their socks off.
After everyone left and things were quiet. The octopus climb up to the top of it's tank unhinged the simple clasp to it's tank lid and climbed out of it's tank, across the floor and over to the fish tank. It climbed up the fish tank, opened the fish tank lid and help itself to a late night snack. What was even more incredable was the octopus seemed to covered it's tracks. After seizing a fish It closed, and relatched the fish tank, climbed back into it's own tank, close and relatched it's own tank, and then proceed to dine on it's midnight snack. By morning any water trails had dried up. Depending on the species of octopi, biologists are giving octopi the intelligence equivilent to a 3 to 4 year old child!

No I haven't. This poor quality video I took last night might give you a reason I haven't. He is one tough little guy. There is a piece of shrimp on the end of a feeding stick, wouldn't want it to be my fingers.......

cool!!! Well I was also thinking that the size of the shark that was killed by the octopus in the one thread recently, is by perspective around the same size as a finger would be to clyde..... :scared:

Gave Clyde a new toy today. Sat for an hour with camera in hand waiting for him to check things out. NOTHING HAPPENED. Wil give it another shot tomorrow with a couple of crabs in the tube to see what happens.
