New Pico Tank Build

hahaha, yah thank god its macro algae! That'd be horrible this early in the tank history if that was all cyano!
I think I've seen one of my old coworkers tank that had this type, and his tank never had any cyano issues or hair algae because of how well this red macro grew. It seems to do wonders at removing trites and trates.
(even though at the moment my nitrates are at 5, but I think thats because I need to replace my HOB filter pad[its the same one I started the tank with], i just didn't want to loose too much bio filtration before it got established.)
Thanks guys!

OMG...I wish I could find stuff as bright as that tank.....
Just reading threw this tank, no freaking kidding that little tank is like a rainbow of colors, totally cool.
I am really starting to love the tiny reef tanks, seeing a really cool setup in such a tiny space is such a cool thing.
I cant wait to see where you tank goes in the next 6 months

First thanks for the interest! I hope aim to please, I'm in the process of getting an SLR digital camera with a macro focus length of hopefully 4-12 inches(i'm not big into cameras so I'm not even sure if thats possible for under a grand). but that'd be awesome!
Well spanko did set a good bar for me to try and reach for with this tank from his perty examples.
So far I think I'm off to a good start. Next I need something blue, or maybe yellow. I'm considering getting some coco worms or feather dusters, but I'm not sure that it would be a good idea to have to fee plankton to such a tiny tank without a skimmer. Other good yellows can be found in flower pot corrals, but once again those need plankton. hmmm
Any thoughts on that? I currently am changing about a gallon a week (its only about 6 mid sized plastic cups!) I wonder if there are small enough skimmers that I could hang on the back as well (would i need one to justify plankton feeding in a tiny tank?)

I very rarely add Plankton to my tank and my coco worm seems to be doing very well, I have had it for about 5 months. I do add trace elements, I'm not sure if just the calcium in the tank is keeping it going, since reading more into it they seem to require the Plankton.

Yah, I add purple tech, and monitor my alkalinity and calcium weekly. I've found that by keeping my alkalinity and calcium correct my pH typically follows. The purple tech I use has trace strontium and Magnesium in proportion to calcium.

Yah, from what i can tell its just a different phase of the red algae. Its starting to spread to other rocks minimally. Maybe I can try to aquaculture a few liverocks with some of it.
Oh yeah and heres an updated picture of my one fish for the tank. Its soem form of a goby, the exact type escapes my mind. I'll have to look that up, but here he is

I still get to buy a coral tomorrow, for my weekly coral.
I saw a great piece of liverock with 12 heads of PURPLE palys! Amazingly gorgeous color, should I get it? Is it worth it for over a Benjamin? I've never seen purple palys before, are they in fact rare?

Ok, so its been a lil while since I've updated. Everything is going great though. I just got back from a 4 day trip to Mammoth and everything went well being ignored over the weekend yay!
Lets see, unfortunatley the goby from the 12/26 picture died from nothing apparant. But the tank is flourishing, and full of copepods so I think I need another fish.
Here are a few picture updates

I got a few new zoa colonies

And I got a new firefish (the only fish it'll have)

I'm stoked, its starting to fill up with coral and staying bright!

Is a 3g tank big enough for a fire fish? Dude I wish I was at Mammoth *jealous*.
It's a 5.5 gallon. Which. I suppose may be a bit small when he gets to full size. But since he's the only fish I think he'll be ok in there for quite a while at least

I had a firefish in my 24 previously and he got bullied by my six line. So be careful
Well all I have in the 29G is a citron goby, chalk bass, and a zebra goby, so they are all pretty tame
