just the yuma, I've had the sexy shrimp and that ric.
When I did get the ricordia however I did tell the owner of the fish store to give me a call if any "unusual or unique" ricordias came in, so I could get them before they were gone.
Low and behold, look what I got a call for today!
This is the last purchase on this tank for a while again... but its definitley a unique ric!

I suppose I don't know the difference between a yuma and a ric.....I thought a yuma was a type of ric originally.
they're both types of mushrooms I suppose, what is the difference?

yeah seriously, the one on the right is absoluteley amazing! It's like the size of my palm. And it has three or four different colors. So far I've got 5 different ricordias. I'm pretty happy with the differences in color I've managed to pull off. (unfortunatley ric's in cali aren't as cheap as in florida!) but its neat to be able to pick up some rare ones still.

I have to say a bad word: Cyano!
Sigh; I've been feeding mixtures of mysis and arctipods. Apparantley I either haven't been dilluting them enough and now I've got a nice 4" circular bed of cyano on the sand. I did two water changes in the last week and added chemi pure elite to my marineland filter. I think I may go for a mini HOB skimmer. Anybody have any good recomendations for one that would fit on a 5.5 gallon tank?

One is from Florida (Ricorida Florida) and the other is from the around India I believe..don't quote me on that last part(Ricordia Yuma)?
The easiest way to tell the difference is that a yuma will have the little bubbles/tentacles that climb up/onto the mouth of the coral. Ricordia Florida's bubbles will go around the little mouth but not up and onto it.
Ricordia floridas usually come in: Green/Orange/Blue/Pink/rainbow.
Yumas come in many different bright colors... your yumas are really awesome btw. both of them.

Ok so I got a Remora Nano Skimmer; keeping in mind that I am going to be able to use it in a future tank upgrade. (for the 40 I'm goin to combine my nano and this into eventually)
But yeah, its up and running and seems to be working pretty good; still a bit loud and bubbly but it sounds like that will go away within a few days. THere's already some residue in the cup so thats a good sign.

And yes I know you're saying, wow thats a bit overkill. Which I'm aware of but I didn't want to buy anything that I wasn't goin to be able to use in the future. That and I didn't want an airstone skimmer; I've heard the pump driven ones are much more consistant.

yay, there was brown residue all over the inside of the collection cup this morning and the cyano is already diminishing :)
Question: Skimmers do not have to be running full time right? In addition I can temporarily run this skimmer on my 24 nano if I wanted to periodically to help that tank? Would there be any downside to this, beyond the obvious contamination if I were to have ich or if the cyano is not under control first in this tank.

I would suggest running it full time.
