A spray bar, not a bad idea, I have an extra spray bar from Corey..he made three, two for horizontal and one for vertical. I used one of each so the extra horizontal one is just sitting here. I will mess around with it this weekend and see what I can come up with to attach the PVC bar to the hose. That tank has a much larger hose than the one on the seahorse tank.
Oh sure..I can do it myself, as long as I don't have to drill, screw or do any math.

Just get a barb hose fitting to fit the ID of the drain hose and the same size as the connection on the spray bar - is it a threaded fitting on there.

The spray bar is a straight pipe of 1/2 inch PVC drilled with holes and an end cap on one end, 6 incs long.....The hose from the 90g overflow is either 1 1/2' or 1'...so I would need some kind of adaptor.

It might be a bit small Flower - you can try it but you should maybe go to a 1" spray bar

Well nix that idea...no way can I make those holes. Me and any type of a power tool is a no go.
Anyway today I'm ordering my lights. Maybe some turtle grass and substrate mud to keep those happy and some amphipods to seed the tank. So between now and the 1st of March, I will be ready for my horses. I'm thinking maybe, serious MAYBE,
the 15th of this month.

Good morning Flower - I have been reading up on macroalgaes for my lion tank - I might be wrong but I have read that turtle grass needs alot of light, I found this cool site - also look at the lion thread going Saxman and Cranberry recommended some really neat macros that could be good hitches for horses. I am excited to see your tank with horses. Good luck

Good morning!
There are a lot of macros to choose from. I think the Red Dragons Breath is beautiful, so is the Dragons tongue…I like the red..But nobody has any, out of season I guess. Smartorl uses the turtle grass and said it was a really good choice. The seahorse’s natural habitat is the grassy areas. I also have a tree sponge and Kenya tree for hitches and a fake coral.
I ordered some nutrient mud to make sure the grass has what it needs to flourish. This tank is so new that the substrate is almost sterile, and not good for plants.
I also ordered a new T5 light with 10K marine bulbs so it should be enough light. Smartorl showed me a great site to get amphipods and copepods 500 for 19.00 + another 500 free. I can seed my refugium and the tank. I also purchased a new titanium heater to keep the temps at 73. I haven’t ordered it yet, but I want to get a small strip of (5) LED lights, in tank with bubbles (any color I want, and I would go blue for moon lights) . I’m not sure if I can modify it so the bubbles are bigger…so I held off.
LOL…That’s it for this payday. I have to pay the bills too. SWF has a great sale but I can’t get enough of what I want to make an order so I’m waiting. What good is a sale if I can’t get what I want. Don’t get me wrong, I can find OTHER stuff to buy, but then I still have to purchase the stuff I actually want and need because it’s out of stock and not being offered right now. Someday I will get me a Fox Coral, they haven’t had any of that in for over a year…I may order lights and such from other places, but I like the fish and coral from SWF.

You know this site is great - because I trust the regulars that post - if smartorl says turtle grass is good then I would go with that - Kenya tree would be cool. I am looking forward to getting some macros for my lion tank, the turtle grass might look cool for a grassy bottom - you know I have that green thumb. I wish it was an SPS stone thumb.

If I ever get my nitrates to 0 and get it stay there I will try some SPS corals, to date that has never happened. I plan to put some macro in my reefs refugium..the one you made. I don't want caulerpa because it goes sexual and in a sump I might miss the signs. Chaeto maybe. I have to get a light that will fit, it's pretty tight in there.
The Kenya tree coral is pretty tough, I got it from a member named Loopy101. It has survived the electric shock from the broken heater. It spreads real nice and fast and it has a nice stalk so the seahorses should like it for hitching...this coral won't care unless you really stress it. Some corals close up and refuse to come out just because a hermit crab crawled near it.

UPDATE:
LOL...I went shopping:

  • The linkable T5HO 39w light. It has 1 actinic and 1 10K bulb..I may swap out the actinic and put another 10K in there.

  • 6 x LED blue moonlight light bubble wand..I checked and I can make the holes in the wand bigger to create big bubbles instead of a curtain. I think the moonlights inside the tank will look cool.

  • Bio-sediment (to mix with the sand for marine plants)
    5 X Turtle grass shoots
500 X 2 copepods and amphipods mix to seed the tank and the refugium
300w Titanium heater ( going to set it at 73, and place it in the sump)
After I was finished and naturally out of spending money...The 25% off sale for SWF was over, and wouldn’t you know it..the orange tree and red frilly sponge (both of what I want) is again in stock..I was so tempted to call the cell phone folks and tell them the payment will be two weeks late. I had to keep saying out loud ...Pay the bills first.....Pay the bills first.
Now that means that next check on the 15[sup]th, or the 28th[/sup]...The 28th if those sponges are still available....I will get my horses. Until I get the skimmer I am running my fluval canister filter as well as the sump and fuge. With the vertical PVC pipe as a spray bar I won’t need power heads.
The question now is this: The stock list
I want a mandarin..not right away, but I have to consider it as I stock my new tank. How many (female only) seahorses can I keep in this tank with the mandarin?

I wouldn't consider the horses as competition for food from the Mandarin. Captive bred will be eating frozen, and will prob only eat amphipods if the swim in front of their faces. Lazy . lol. Young horse tend to play more then older ones though. 3 or 4 would fit nicely in your tank.

I know now that they won't fight for when you told me they won't eat copepods. I was asking to make sure I don't overcrowd the tank...4 horses with the mandarin
How do horses play?

when mine were young, they would swim across the tank, into the bubbles, let the bubble push them to the top, and around the tank, then they would do it all over again. lol

Oh boy! I purchased that bubble lighted wand thing I'm going to modify too. This seahorse tank is going to be so awesome. AHHH the next week and a half is going to seem sooo long...until I can get them.

Did you get a hold of Peka??

Yes, she said to check back in a few weeks, she thinks she should have some babies ready to go. Erectus is pretty easy to find. How long before your babies are ready? If you are willing to ship them I would love to get my horses from you..They have to be old enough to make sure they are all girls, my tank is too shallow for mating.

mine, if they live would not be ready for at least another 4 months. Though I would love to say they will all live, I am trying to get them onto frozen now and this is a stage that you loose a lot.

Wow..4 months! I have new respect for the breeders of seahorses.
Since we are on the topic of food...how do you switch them over to frozen, and while your at it, can you explain..how do I "TEACH" my horses to eat at a feeding station?

with the babies, I am shaving mysis and mixing it with 24 to 48 hour old bbs.
for training to a feeding dish. Pic out a dish you want to use, could be the fake coral you have to a small glass dish.place it is a very low flow area, or you can choose to turn off you pump.
I use a clear plastic tube like they use on undergravel filters. I stick one end in the feeding dish, and and dump the mysis in the other. I let it fall down to the dish. Your horses will learn that you are a food source and where the food is.
