"the great impeller gods in the sky" ? Do we need to kneel and pray to them? LOL
Not in the sky, in the return pump..silly.

Well, I know I wont fit in my sump, so how do I show them respect so they dont chew up my free fish food?
You can't fit a return pump in your sump?
There is an impeller in the pump pushing water from the sump back to the main tank. Some tiny critters may indeed be chewed up in the impeller, but most will pass through unharmed for the seahorses to feed on....the critters are doomed either way.

1. when you have to explain the joke, its just not funny anymore.
2. "I" meaning me, monsi, wont fit in the sump. I know for a fact i am more than a foot wide. Hell, my pants, when laid flat, are more than a foot wide.
Anyways, its not funny anymore.
How about raising rotifiers for your amphipods to eat to supply free food for your horses? Is this a good idea Teresa, as far as feeding the amphipods?
Will mandarins or scooters eat rotifiers? Are they too small?

I. I did the joke kill because of praying to false gods is a big no, no even in play in my eyes...so I had to fix the bad joke.
2. Because of #1 I pretended to not get the joke.
So don't take offence but I had to do what I had to do.

I think we've beaten this one into the ground. It was not my intention that a throwaway comment about certain imaginary crustacean deities would be cause to incite ill-will between two otherwise good Internet acquaintances. We do not worship the Great and Wrathful Impeller, nor should we. Leave that kind of worrying to the amphipods.
Moving on. ;-)
How's the cycle coming? (OK, I'm grasping here....but there's not much to do while the cycle does its thing, is there??)

Monsi, why bother,Rotifers are a pain to raise. -- Captive bred horses eat frozen food. Ampipods would be just a treat, not a main diet.

LOL...No ill-will. I am just anal

I am past the cycle...I have transferred some mushrooms, an orange tree sponge (what is left of it) and Kenya tree frags to the new tank. Everything looks pretty happy this morning. I'm ready to order some sponges and have not yet had a diatom bloom..I have a ton of snails purchased with reward points that will be auto shipped...Should I hold off or can I add the CUC? I haven't started a new tank in so many years, I really don't remember.

To be honest once again when I am ready to order SWF has only half of what I want at best.
At the moment they are out of

  • frilly sponges

  • Chaeto

  • red mushrooms
    tree sponges
    Caulerpa
I need the Nessarius sails, but I missed the buy 10 and get 10 free. They have absolutely no sponges suitable for a seahorse hitch..I am having trouble getting the order up to the amount to get the $19.99 shipping..I have 1400 reward points and $39.99 credit..that can't be sent out untill I make an order. I don't want to order a bunch of crap I don't want.
How long have I been waiting to get a refund item......over 6 months now. Since 7/13/2010 to be exact.
Once again SWF doesn't have enough in on what I want or need. I'm going shopping...elsewhere for now.

Have you tried calling them and telling them what you are looking for? I have found them to be very accomodating if there is something specific I am looking for. I believe they have access to other items but don't always stock them because there is not much demand or they move super fast.

Well, I m fed up waiting on SWF to ever have enough for me to bother ordering. It's been 6 months since I had a credit on the coral that died. Now I have to spend an extra $40.00 to get it...I sent an e-mail and I got an advertisement saying I can purchase 10 snails and get 10 free...Today only...But I don't get paid until tomorrow..Oh well
Then I decided to turn my attention to a light and order the T5 that can be upgraded. ...Foster and Smith says out of stock...I found the light at another site, same price. So if it holds till tomorrow I will get it. While searching I came across an awesome macro site...Has anybody ever heard of Codium? It looks perfect for a seahorse tank.

spongy green algae that features dark green, cylindrical branches, connected by a single holdfast to rocks, shell fragments and hard bottoms. The branching is irregular and features soft fuzzy filaments at the tips resembling the fingers of a sponge. Individual species of Codium are abundant in shallow water habitats worldwide. A cooler water specimen that will not grow well in aquariums with temps above 80 degrees.

Its called dead mans fingers or Green sea fingers and it hangs on cliffs vertically...which would hang on my back rock wall really good. I was wondering if maybe you guys tried to lay it flat on the bottom of the tank or did you hang it as well? Will it help with nitrates like other macros?

What temp are you planning to run the tank at.
I have tried it several times, my experience is that it breaks apart really easily and makes sure a mess that I get aggrevated and toss it for fear of it rotting and contamination my water.
The only time I have had success was in a 10 gallon coldwater tank that I set up had for my catalina gobies and even then, I wasn't super happy with the look of it.
