Very nice Flower.....How old are these horses????
I was so excited I forgot to ask. She had the parents there, they were so awesome and she had a beautiful reef tank and a Riedi Seahorse tank, I was over whelmed. Like a little kid in a candy store.
Big girl still isn't eating and now she isn't active either, just holding a plastic plant looking pitiful and very unhappy. The other three are all over the place exploring and eating well. She was active earlier and looked like she was hunting...now nothing. I may lose her...she has changed color three times, first black, then tan, now a redish color like the plant she is holding. She seemed to be the biggest and healthiest at Pekas (Beth's) place.
Only the tiny one is still black, the other two are turning pale orange...I have to really look for them they hide so well.

6 months old and only 1".......isn't that small?? How could they sex them being that small??

I don't know...I have never had seahorses before. Just the tiny ones from the comic book when I was a kid. It came with a tiny little tank and a pregnant daddy and a little pack of brine shrimp eggs. ...They lived a whole day.
With the tail, little tiny Tina is 2 inches. I'm off to work. How big were your horses?
She said the round body by the tail were males (pouch) and the flat square looking ones were female.

I really liked my seamonkeys, they were healthy..that's why I talked my mother into buying the little seahorses. I remember telling her that if I could take good care of my seamonkeys I was sure I could take good care of little seahorses. I was so bummed when they died. I have been afraid to get them because of what happened when I was a girl.

Hi T,
She had them in a bare tank with colorful plastic zip ties linked together for hitches, and she had a brown feeding dish. I can't get these guys to follow a trail for nothing...they just sit there and wait for the shrimp to float by and get it then. Half the time they just watch it float on by. So far the only thing eating from my feeding dish are the snails.
After the pumps are back on they go chasing the food floating around. I'm beginning to think I should feed them like the other tank...just rinse it and dump it in and every critter for himself. Big girl picky eater waits for the shrimp to get caught on something and then sneaks up on it to eat it. I'm concerned about the tank pollution...it is looking like I have to change the water every week a this rate.
I am going to swap all the plastic crap for red macroalgae when it is in season. I read someplace that macros fight like corals...The article said to choose one kind..Now I understand it means to choose red, brown or green macroalgae. So I’m going for red ASAP.

Update:
All the horses are eating good and seem happy. They are getting used to my sea squirt, from which all food flows for them. The new plan is to let them get real comfortable with the sea squirt so they can learn to follow it...maybe someday get them to the feeding station. They will stretch to reach the end of the feeding tube but not follow...

§ Miss Picky spends her day watching the rocks for amphipod activity. She changes from yellow to orange to black...with silver blotches
§ Tina Tiny likes to explore, still black and silver
§ Big eater (no real name yet) waits in the corner where all extra food seems to flow to. She stays tan to yellow in color with grey splotches.
§ ont-size: 10pt; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-ansi-language: EN">(no name yet) The last little girl likes to hang out behind rocks and hitches to the Kenya trees...she scans the sand for stray food and I think small amphipods...the big ones she just watches skitter past her. She also changes from black to the very color of the Kenya tree.

I have to really search for them every morning. I could only locate three...I found my missing girl among the kenya trees and rock, almost invisible to the eye..until she moved.

That is good news, are they neat to watch Flower, just asking because I have never really seen horses swimming around. How about some more pictures!

I have to go to work...so making it short...It is a joy to make sure they are eating, like you fret over a new baby. The rest if the time it's a game of hide and seek, these guys can really hide in plain sight. I will try and get more pictures, I'm not very good at photography.

Seahorse pictures, LOL...That actually show up right.
Here is Tina Tiny (AKA T.T) and Miss Picky

This one was black last night...I had a hard time finding her...This one I have named Middle Mindy (AKA M&M
)

My big Eater, I have decided to call Umpa...On the side of the tank is hard to get a good picture..Of the three I took this one is the best.

Two of the horses ate at the feeding dish tonight...T.T and Umpa...Progress! Miss Picky and M&M know the feeding tube and come out of hiding to eat, but prefer to have their dinner by the back wall still

Thats good. It just takes time.
T

BLAH back to square one...they didn't follow this morning. Maybe they need more time to wake up. I feed them when I get home from work, about 1/2 hour after I turn on the lights...They seem more ready to eat in the evening. I'm going to do the first water change while they are in there...any tips? I'm setting up the water now and will do it tomorrow.
The macroalgae I want is out of season, I can't wait to get rid of all this plastic.

UPDATE:
All the horses know what the feeding dish is for now, and are indeed hanging out there when it's feeding time. I have another blade growing on the turtle grass shoot..only one shoot lived of the 5 I ordered. I also noticed what I believe is tiny caulerpa growing on a coral rock...(6) they have a green stem and a little feather on the end..too tiny for a picture on my camera. If it continues to grow I will take a picture.
The horses are little pigs and eat well. LOL..They will follow my feeding tube anywhere. They also come out of hiding when I look in the tank..no doubt they associate me with feeding time.
In the beginning I looked all over the tank to find them just before I shut down the pumps, so I could guide them with the feeding tube to the feeding station. So I guess my big face and a feeding tube means meal time to them. LOL..Works for me!
Hands down the coolest fish I ever had. God forbid, but if I were to lose my fish in the 90g...it will become a seahorse tank as well.
