I was just shown this thread and thought I would add my .02.
the first thing would be, whatever this LFS has told you is crap. the substrate that is in there is gravel or maybe crushed coral not live sand. eels are hardy but if the tank is not cycled like it sounds then even he is in for some trouble. one thing that you didnt list is salinity. do you have any way of measuring this?
sorry dont mean to sound like a prick
yeah the salinity is exactly where it should be also.
what the guy at the lfs said was that they died cause i didnt put in the de-chlorinator in when i did the water changes????

You can use a shop vac to get the gravel out...As far as sand...at least a 2" bed....so may be 40lbs........

I have never used de-chlorinator....and never have I lost a fish..The fish died cause it was too soon to add them, and they were too big for the tank
I'm so sorry this store told you all this CRAP......we will try to get you back up to speed

Well actually you really can't put him in a bucket because your levels won't be right for some time. Sometimes more than a month. I say just cycle the tank with the Eel and see what happens...sorry bud.

THEY ARE RETARDED! I used tap water on mine, it seems fine. But, since the last month I've noticed algaes of all sorts. I am now starting to use RO water...I wouldn't use tap, but you can if you want to.

CHECK YOUR LOCAL CRAIGSLIST 1ST I got mine on there its a aqua fx you can see them at aquariumwaterfilters . com i got it for 30 bucks and it normally costs 280 works perfect and it produces 200 gpd which is WAY more than i need. I am very very happy with it. So always check your local craigslist for anything live rock, live sand anything you need just test it before you buy it

i dont want to seem ignorant, but since i am getting a 210g probably sooner then i originally thought. probably by the end of the year. should i just leave it as is and wait to dump all this money into the 210?
sorry, just really pissed at all the money i lost and the guy at the lfs convincing my wife for me to go with a smaller tank than a bigger one like i wanted.
