HMMM....I didn't think I skimped :(....LOL....
If you want a bigger one...get a bigger one...I have a 225g, 54g, and 29G...and have no problems when I need water....I have the unit atuomatically hooked up to my 225 for top off, and I keep a 10g container filled at all times...also with ato...for topping off my 19 and 54...also I use it when I mix for water changes....

LOL...I was jokin about the skimp thing...
They sell a float valve...I actually bought 2...My husband hooked it up. We have it in the laundry room. we bought a Y and hooked the ro unit to that. The unit comes with a shut off valve on it....we put one float in a 12g trash can....so when the unit makes 10g's it turns off....we bout a T from airwater ice and some more tubing.....he ran tubing under the house (I didn't want to be able to see it..lol) and came up by the sump/fuge.....we put a float in the return part of the sump.....
I'm not very good at explaining....does that help????

nice setup. how do you mixh the salt in it? it tops it off automatically?
I have a 35g trash can that I mix salt in...I just put some of the ro water already made in it, add the salt and a powerhead...and go from there...Of course I do not have 20g's of ro made up...so I start with the 10gs made up...then when more ro is made I add it to the 35g trash can.
Of course when I do my 54g and 29g water changes I have enough ro made up already :)
ANd I always have water to top off my 54g and 29g...I do not have ATO on them.
OHHHHH and I did not have to buy an electric ato sensor or pumps either.
and yes....My 225g is topped off automatically with ro/di, and my white trash can (in pic) ALWAYS has 10g's of ro/di water

whats the name of the store?
Petsmart?
sorry you got burned like that. never ever ever take what the fish store has to say as truth unless you double check and researched it to back them up, i know its harsh....but within a month you will know more than the typical teenage kid behind the register(unless its one of the teenage kids hear on the forums^^)
Also, a good idea is to go in knowing more about a topic than you let on...then ask about it...if they give you some dumb advice you can sniff them out immediately.
It will be a long but extremely rewarding and addicting adventure, so don't let this kill it for you. learn from the people on this site...they are a great community. Honestly you have potentially hundreds of hours of reading ahead of you before you will feel like you got it down. Ive been studying for three years now...and still feel like a noob^^
good luck. and you came to the right place.

thanks! i felt comfortable going where i went because it was the owner of the store, and he said he was in this for 20+ years. so i figured i was good. hopefully it goes better for me when i get the new tank.

dont fill that tank up past the first hole. It will flood your basement. Go to home depot and get some valves. Place them over the piping. Actually stop putting water in. Go get some foam. Place that under the tank. This will level out the tank and allow it to settle correctly on the stand. Then start filling it up.
I would look into getting rid of that wet dry system and setting your own sump depending what route you go, I would slap a 55 gallon tank with a asm g4 skimmer. a very large fuge with a 6 inch sand bed.
Here is a 210. This will give you an idea of what it can look like.
IMO you are about 30 days away from putting a single live animal in this tank.

Just to make sure you understand.
Salt does not evaporate, so top off water is freshwater..we use RO water to make sure it is pour and free of pollutants. Mix salt water for water changes only, not top off.
