Man, I am glad to see some of you can stick with your resolutions. I have lost some weight but the tobbacco issue is tough. I'm not a smoker but I am a chain dipper. I have tried the gum but this is my dilemma. When the craving comes around I tend to stick a dip in vs the gum. I bought some patches today to see if a continuous dose of nicotine will help. I think what also hurts me is boredom. Right now I am having a tough time in my new position at work in that I am bored and that seems to make me crave the dip more. If you don't have a habit like this, you won't understand. Anyway, congrats to the ones sticking to their guns and hopefully the patch will help me out.

mrdc, you can do this man. Try this; everytime at work you crave a dip, go brush your teeth. You are suffering from the habit of having something in your lip more than you are fighting the nic. demon.
They say it is easier to kick the herione addition than it is to kick nicotene.
Now I hear that this guy invented nicotene icing for donuts.
We can help you through this. Post here everyday if needed and let's talk ya through it. Barry

Barry's right! You can do it. Funny thing is I was out in the garage putting up some Garagetech wall this weekend. First thing I did without thinking was crave a dip and reach for my rear pocket. The funny part is yesterday was 6 years that I have not had a can in my pocket or a dip. The triggers still come every now and then but they are nothing. I just laugh and go about my business.

Thanks for the support. I have a patch on today and have not craved one yet. The patch is 21mg and I am really tired today. My arm is sore where the patch is attached. Not sure the patch has anything to do with my tiredness or soreness. I'm also not sure why I am having trouble quitting. I dipped for years before quitting for about 3. I thought I could have a casual one while I was out with friends fishing but I guess not because I fell right back into my old habits. Anyway, it actaully might be helpful in a supportive way if I keep y'all posted on my progress. Thanks again.

Well like a good friend use to say to me. "Happy Birthday".
I know it's not your birthday but today is the first day for the rest of your life!!!!!
The patch IS the cause for the soreness and the tiredness I would assume. Thats one of the reason I chose not to do anything but cold turkey as you just have one more habit to kick as you decrease the dosage of the gum or the patch.
You have to do this for yourself, not for someone else. Be strong. Barry

Yep, post on here when you need to. When I quit it was cold turkey. As has been said on here before, after 3 days it is out of your system. The rest is in your mind. I know it is hard and sometimes the best thing you can do is talk yourself into making it to the next minute without chewing, then go on to the next minute. Eventually you realize that you have made it another hour. I am going on 7 months now so I figure I am on my way.
Post on here when you need to.
Barry, Good job man!

Yea, I spent $27 on fish food today. That will last me a couple months though.

That's only $13.50 against the budget for the month!

For those who are trying to stop nicotine, there's a newer product out: Chantix. Its an oral tablet, by prescription, but success rates are promising.

I have a friend that used that and and did well until her husband came home from the field and she smelled smoke on him and she asked him if he was smoking again and he said, "yes, you want one"!

I was wondering if there were any prescrip type meds for nicotine. Sorry guys I had a dip today. I try to see the positive that I had only 1 in two days vs a whole can but it still messes up my goal. I didn't wear the patch today because of the way it made me feel yesterday. Maybe if I want to try the patch method, I should get a lesser dosage. WHY IS IT SO HARD TO QUIT NOW!!! Anyway, I know I can do it because I really want to do it. I know the "want to do it" is critical when you really want to quit. I will keep y'all posted.
Barry, are you still having any sort of w/drawals?

mrdc, well that is better. But I personally think the cold turkey way is the best. One thing that helped me when I had the urges (and still do) was to chew some gum. And I would chew the he&& out of that gum. But it helped. Also the thought of, would I rather take a dip or spend another day with my kids. Sorry for sound gloomy.

No withdrawals. Sometimes I feel like I need something, but not longing for a chew, just something. I'm not eating everything in sight either so thats great.
1 dip is still better than a can.
