Wow....I just realized the little female mandarin has been a a part of my family for almost three and a half years. Got her sometime back in mid-2008. I was looking at older pictures of my H. reidis from a while ago, and remembered that she was in this tank with those horses before she moved to the big tank. Not sure how old the male Mandarin is, but I think he's been in the family about 2 years now. This horse really is the "baby" of the tank....I've had her for 17 months now. Brought her home May 2010......
....after a year and a half, I think it's high time to get some girlfriends for her, don't you think??

Counting down the hours now! I did my WC last night, and took my readings today.
Ammonia: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: less then 5
pH: 8.1
KH: 120
Ca: 480
Temp: 72
Salinity: 35 ppt.
While I was at it I added fresh purigen, phosguard, and a new carbon bag. I haven't washed the bioballs in quite a while, but I didn't want to disturb the bacterial growth on them and possibly harm the biofilter. I'm leaving at 9am to go pick up the new kiddies.....

FTS as of tonight:

...and just for giggles....here's a shot of the tank back in early 2008. Quite a different setup back then....

72, but if I could, I'd keep it at 70. My tank sometimes creeps up to 74 on particularly hot days, but now that I'm in my own home and in control of my own damn thermostat, I expect that to be rare. The house is usually set to 70 at night and 74 during the day.

And we're drip acclimating. Ammonia was still close to 0 in the transport water, but pH was a little different, and of course the temp was much warmer than the tank. Since there is an airline in the bucket, I think I have time for a 1 hour drip, just to be safe....

Actually it didn't take that long to cool down. Remember I keep my house cool... And I never turned the temp up from the nighttime temp last night. :)

Okay, well I'm sure you knew I couldn't resist. Of course you unrstand that they went in and IMMEDIATELY hid. They're still dark, too...that will probably be a few days.
But first......last night:
