The boy, ah, the boy.
The boy is a lazy sod who would rather hide in the back amidst the caulerpa than actually swim out and explore.
He and the large female are both "back of the bus" kinda horses, while the younger females buzz around the front of the tank to explore.
He'll come out of his shell eventually. I hope. He's SO pretty, the few times I actually see him!

LOL I've forgotten some of the antics involved when you get multiple horses together. The two little sisters were fighting it out over some food this morning. One horse had hitched to the second one's head as she was reaching for a shrimp. The second horse -- hand to my heart -- managed to twist around, grab her offensive sister by the neck, and pull her away before she could snick the shrimp.
I about peed my pants laughing. I'm going to need to have the video camera running for some of these feeding sessions.

Took the starfish plunge. Haven't tried one of these beasties since I was first starting out and stupid. But the LFS got a nice shipment of red and black fromias in, and they acclimated them to their holding tanks correctly, so I thought it was worth a shot. I acclimated it using the drip method, a little faster than 1 dps, over a 90 min period. I know Fromias are a little hardier than linkias, but still pretty temperamental......so, here's hopin'.

I love fromas bright red color...they need a super mature tank and lots of algae, I'm not sure which algae they like but they last longer if you have plenty of algae and perfect parameters. It's beautiful..good luck with it.

Well, with the exception of the move, I'd say this tank is pretty mature. They don't actually feed on algae (some people say they're bacteriovores, others say they eat certain kinds of encrusting sponge life) but the simple truth is that, like linkias, there's no definitive "yes or no" on exactly what they eat. Getting them acclimated properly is a big portion of the battle (there was a great article in CORAL a few months back about them) and having stable parameters for the long term is also paramount.

I did a 'trate test a couple days ago, and came up with a "0" reading.
"Inconceivable," thought I. "Not with three new additions." So I bought a new Nitrate test kit, and just got around to testing it today.
Yep. 20.
Water change time!

New video. Horses eating.....

Yes, I know. Out of focus, things moving too fast, etc. A videographer I am not. But hey! There's music to this one!

Oh, I forgot. Most of the corals are closed up because this was actually filmed at night. I got in late, the lights were off, and three little faces were pressed against the glass, saying "don't forget the horses!!" So I turned on the main light to record them....

That was awesome background music too....To be honest I seldom watch a video all the way through, I watched that one with huge smile on my face the entire time... that one is a keeper...

LOL thanks very much all of you.
The background music is from a composer called Anugama.
I've been trying all night to get a single decent frelling full tank shot for the TOTM contest. Must be one of those days.....every single bloody image is blurry. Guess I'll have to try again tomorrow.

I hate when this happens.
95% of the time when I feed, I'll turn off the pumps, thaw my shrimp, rinse it, and squirt it in a clear tube that leads down to the shell. The shrimp float gently down (these days escorted by at least two seahorses) into the shell, where they are deposited in a nice, neat little pile for the horses and the mandarins to come munch whenever the please.
Every once in a while, though.....for no particular reason......the shrimp float down the tube, then WHOOSH away into some mysterious current to fly all over the bloody tank. Even though ALL PUMPS ARE OFF. And have been for a few minutes.
Yes, it happened tonight. Rassinfrassin.

BTW, for those wondering. Yes, I still have a starfish. No, I still haven't gotten a nice clear full tank shot for the TOTM. Maybe next month...Le Sigh.
