Thanks. This may sound sacrilegious to some people, but I'm thinking of focusing my time on the "backdrop" for the horses right now; i.e., the corals and live hitches I plan on using. I've got a twinspot goby in QT who is destined for this tank, and I might just let him be the only fish in the tank while I build my corals up. That way I won't be disturbing the horses by adding new crap every couple weeks -- they'll be the final animals to go in the tank. It would also mean the tank would have at least 3+ more months to mature, which is not at all a bad thing.
Of course, I might change my mind tomorrow. Who knows.

nice. I am very happy with the gorgonians I have in my tank. They are all photo and are growing like crazy.
I love the blueberry, but I have enough problems with algea in my tank.

I know how you feel. I started my 55 gallon with horses in mind and decided I just wanted other fish and corals instead.
The blueberry gorg looks awesome! What have you been feeding it? I want a gorg for my tank but have heard they are too hard to keep alive and happy.
Keep up the awesome work man!

Yup, you heard correctly. If I can keep this longer than 6 months I'll be thrilled. I have a mixture of Rod's Coral food, DT's Phyto, and Dr. G's Oyster Magnifique that I'm using as a daily feeding regimen. I think it's going to need twice daily feedings with smaller amounts, but we'll see how it goes. I'm also considering some marine snow as a supplement, but I haven't decided yet.

Went in to the store for topoff and changewater again today. History, it seems, likes to repeat itself. It's especially likely to if, to pull a random example from the air, one goes in to the store with a few extra twenties stashed away for just this occasion! I might regret this, but I decided to pick up a beautiful electric green GSP rock today. I'll probably be grumbling about this later down the road, but I'll accept it. I also grabbed a little 10-dollar frag of a really interesting paly that has a rainbow quality to it under the actinics.
Pics later. The GSP is sulking right now. The blueberry's doing great, however, and I've attached it to its final resting place.
Sadly, my adorable little two-spot goby dies in QT.
bugger didn''t want to eat when I brought him home, no matter that I saw him eat at the store. Crap. I'm thinking maybe a hardier sand-sifter in his place, maybe a golden-head sleeper goby.

Now THAT would look fantastic!
I'd also like to get some pulsing xenia in here, but for some reason it's going for a premium price at my local stores right now. Odd, considering how many people bemoan its weedy tendencies. You'd think I'd be able to find it for a good price.
Well Dinner's over, going for a walk. I'll snap some pics of the tank after the walk so you can see the general placement. I'm also interested to see what these palys are going to look like under pure actinics!

I paid 50 dollars for my pulsing xenia. It was pathetic to waste the money but I wanted it and thats what they had it marked as. Everything cost more in California though!
Beautiful tank also!!

Sorry about the goby, I had the a similar experience with my royal gramma jumping a few weeks back.
The little guy must have slipped out near the filter. And he was eating so well...
Anyway, your tank looks great! I have always been a gorgonian fan, but I'm not sure if I'm up to keeping one. This will be a beautiful tank in a few months!

I have photo gorgs. They do not require the feedings of the non-photos, just good lights.

photosynthetic gorgs are DEFINITELY safer and easier to care for than Non-photosynthetics, and there are quite a few that are very beautiful. I'll probably wind up with a few in my tank as well and stick with one or two non-photosynthetics. The blueberry is definitely my fave though.

Well, I've been a bit under the weather lately, so I don't have much to report right now. I just wanted to pop back on and wave hello. The tank has been going through some growing pains lately. The Blueberry is still in good shape, but the increased feedings have caused a small ammonia spike (0.3ppm) while the bacteria is catching up. My tank water has been pretty cloudy too...I'm wondering if it's from bacterial bloom. Last night was the first time I really felt energetic enough to get some work done, so I cleaned the big tank and did a 10g water change on the seahorse (absentee horses for now) tank. The GSP has been opening up a little here and there, but it's still not fully opened. I've also added 2 small mexican turbos and some Atlantic grazers to the existing 3 Nassarius snails that act as the CUC. The snails have been slow this past week, almost certainly due to the ammonia level. I'll keep an eye on the levels, but I'm beginning to suspect that the heavy feeding the blueberry needs is going to result in 25% water changes weekly, minimum. I've been holding off adding the purigen and phosgard pillows to the filter in order to help boost the bacteria count, but I think it's time.
Oh, and turns out the "operator error" I mentioned about the botched photos earlier was incorrect. Operator's fine, but the camera has a shot sensor. So, it's time for a new camera! Shame that money tree is so bare these days....

Time for more pics! Unfortunately, these might be the last of the new additions for a little while...the company I worked for finally folded up shop on Friday. The last of us were laid off over the weekend, including myself. Well, them's the breaks, kid! At least I had a little warning to prepare my resumes and begin hunting for a new job a little early.
So, ANYway, here are the pics! The blueberry is very pretty, but I don't see any new growth on it. The green star polyp rock finally decided to open up, and the mystery paly frag has grown two new polyps since being in the tank. The cloudiness I was complaining about finally went away, but I'm afraid I had to cheat to do it -- I used seachem's Clarify. Tank was crystal clear in 3 hours after that.
Hope you like....

Closeup of the GSP. I might try and frag my orange toadstool and see if the frag does well in the seahorse tank. Having never fragged anything before, I'd be a tad nervous....but a leather would probably be the best thing to begin with.
