Some more pics of the blues brothers.....

And yes, this is a QT tank, NOT a hospital tank. I personally don't mind QTing two fish at the same time when I know that they came in from the same source. It's safe to assume that whatever bug one fish may get is almost certainly already affecting the other one as well, so...if I'm going to treat one, I might as well treat both. If I see anything pop up, I'll switch this over to a hospital tank and move the two coral frags to another smaller tank.
Right now I've got one very active fish, and one that hides a little more. The hider also looks like he was picked on a bit - there is a spot on his flank where the scales look scraped. These guys were in with a few other fish, and might have gotten into a scrape or two. I'll just watch it and see if it's going to be an issue, but it's a mild scratch that should heal up with a week or two of peace and quiet. Today was the first time I turned the main lights on, and they seem to be doing pretty well...ate some frozen brine, and pecked at a few pellets.

Setback. I think.
I dug out my return pump today (it's going to be used to drain the fresh water for the leak test) and pulled it apart to examine the impeller. Discovered the impeller magnet has swelled and cracked along the side, and....unsurprisingly.....is unreliable when I plugged it in. I could get it to spin, but only by applying some forceful percussive maintenance to the housing.
Not what I want my whole filtration system riding on!

I think it's good enough to use for the fresh water test, but I need to order a new impeller before I can get this baby up and running. Crap.
On a brighter note, I just took the tank off the stand and marked the new cut lines for the bottom plate. Gonna go make those cuts, get the stand back on, and (crosses fingers) move the tank back in place for the VERY LAST TIME. Water test will commence this evening.

All full! Of freshwater, that is. I also put another coat of stainblocker on the entire inside of the stand while I was at it. Gonna let it sit like this overnight, then drain it tomorrow.

The blue looks really blue when the water hits it. I like. I also rinsed the first bag of sand and....I'm not going to rinse any more. The amount of dust in the rinse water was so inconsequential, it felt like a waste of time. The thing will be cloudy for a few days, but hey.....it's a cycle, folks. Doesn't need to be pretty on day one. I'll just make sure the filter floss is changed, we catch all the dust, and I don't think there's going to be a problem.

Your making me itch to get my tank set up. Lol.
I want to see what that black sand looks like. Im debating using it for my tank or not.
I have 90 pounds of plain aragonite already though. :( maybe could sell it or something. I dunno.

I'll have the black sand in there by tomorrow sometime. I'll post those pics when it's in.
In the meantime, no leaks. So far so good. Whew!

Because I wanted something different. I've done white sand, fiji pink sand, and even Florida "gold" sand in tank setups I've either had or supervised. I don't like the look of barebottom (though I can't argue the ease of maintenance) and I just wanted something a little different from the standard fishtank look. So.....black sand it is.
Besides. It sparkles.
The Wife loves that.
