well reading some posts on the mp40 powerheads got me looking at them.couple questions.
i have my 250 gallon reef with 6 korilias in there.i would start with one mp40 .
now when you buy these and want to add a 2nd do you have to buy another controller or can you put two to the one that comes with it?
the 6 pumps in my tank are just too ugly and too many of them.
kinda leary about the $450 price tag though

The main MP40 can control other MP40's....they would be called the slaves
GO to this http://ecotechmarine.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/FULLMANUAL_Revision1.1.pdf
this is the users manual...YUP..all 44 pages of it...LOL...BUT it explains about the settings and all..
To tell you the truth, when I get my 2nd....I am getting another controller...REASON....I wnat to run 2 different programs....
I think (from what I read) that when you use one as a master.....it runs the same program on all the slaves

i have been looking around and i dont find anywhere that just a pump can be bought.
looks to me you have to buy it as a combo.
probably just as good if your going to run them differently.
i found a couple places for $419 free shipping .seeing i have 6 korilias will this thing replace 3 or 4 of them?
would one on each side of the tank work for a 250.i have tried some sps but dont seem to live for me.my water tests zero for nitrates so i think the sps need flow like the mp40's put out.

make sure u get the mp40w es, which stands wireless ecosmart. i ordered mine from aquacave.com for roughly $420. use the coupon code RC5. for a 250 gallon, two mp40 is minimum. take a look at the mp60 too, but that will cost a lot more.

i figure i would get one for now.hard to blow $850 .i just paid $2880 for the transmission on my truck .but i am curious about these pumps.i figure two mp40 and leave the #4 korilia on the backside of the rock.of course no corals back there .just dont want stagnant water.

Sounds like my plan.....When I get my 2nd MP40 I will remove all the Koralias except the one dead center in the tank
and that may come out if all I hear is true

The MP 40 should be able to replace at least 3 PH's.
Definitely get the MP 40W ES. This way when you do get a second, they two can speak to each other. One will be the slave and the other the master. For best flow, two MP40's and one MP10 (or 20 if you can find it) would be the best. Place the MP40's on opposite sides of the tank facing each other (not directly) and then the MP10 in the center facing the front. This is what I plan for my 180. You'd just have to run your MP40's higher than I would. I'm not sold on the MP60 model yet. Not many people have them. You'll be amazed by what these little PH's can do. I flipped when my husband bought our first one, but they really work well and can get flow to EVERYWHERE. They pulse and create so much more current, and it's much more natural than just a Koralia blasting at the same GPH day and night.

i pretty much sold on them.i am working with cam to see if we buy a few if we can get a little better deal but if not i will be ordering two at the end of next week.i still havnt found a place where they sell just the ph.they all come with the controller.i would think i could find two ph and one controller.

I don't think they're available without the controller. To the best of my knowledge, they each need their own controller, but can be master/slaved together with the ES models.
I don't think you'll get any sort of discount out of them. My reef club tried and I think a few others have as well. Even the LFS's tried to buy in bulk to get a better deal and had no bite. My one guy that is very honest with us said it's really a loss for him to keep them in stock because he can't even mark them up from what he's paying. EcoTech is fairly strict about what they want for them and how much you're allowed to sell them for.
