ok mp40 owners

I got very lucky with mine. I paid $300 (or $350 can't remember) for my first MP 40W and then I was given the second one for free. The guy thought that it was dead, it just needed a new wet side, so it only cost me $75 in all to buy a new wet side. It was an ES so I've since upgraded it to the ES driver, so in all to have two MP40 ES W's it cost me $475-$525. I can't complain. Now I'm on a search for an MP20 if I can find one, but might need to settle for the MP10 so I can do the Nurtrient Export mode.

It's good to know stupid rich brats who just throw stuff away instead of trying to fix it. Definitely recommend searching local forums to see if you can find a broken one. They're usually really easy to fix. My husband likes to find broken ones and fix them and re sell them, it's been getting harder to do, I think more and more people are catching on.

I don't think they're available without the controller. To the best of my knowledge, they each need their own controller, but can be master/slaved together with the ES models.

I don't think you'll get any sort of discount out of them. My reef club tried and I think a few others have as well. Even the LFS's tried to buy in bulk to get a better deal and had no bite. My one guy that is very honest with us said it's really a loss for him to keep them in stock because he can't even mark them up from what he's paying. EcoTech is fairly strict about what they want for them and how much you're allowed to sell them for.
+1
Its the controllers that talk to each other. You also need both/all to have their own controllers so you can, if you wish, control each slave's speed independent of the master's setting. For instance, if you have the master/slave set for Reef Crest in antisync mode, meaning when the master is running at max setting, the slave is at min setting; the two are running the program opposite of each other, you might want the master's max setting to be 100% but the slaves max only at 60%, etc. You could also turn one or more slaves to Feed Mode, for example, without turning off the entire program, or affecting the master. Once the Feed Mode times out (also programmable) the slaves resume the original programming.
Amazing little critters, the flow does wonders for keeping detritus suspended.
