Hey Guys and Gals,
With all of the political and government threads that are going on, I am suggesting to just post everything in one thread. Those that want to keep up with the conversation can keep it all in one thread.
Rules:
1. No bashing other members on this site because of their political or religious beliefs.
2. All forum rules apply. (duh)
3. Do not let this thread get out of hand and locked.

You had me for a minute.........lol
seriously though, is a political thread any different than some of the threads on here? I see many I don't even bother reading because of what the title says it is about. Is it that hard to continue scrolling down. Have we become that lazy?
Case in point, why not have one universal ick thread, one universal cycling thread, and one universal my fish died thread....
wait, this might not be a bad idea.....

Thats because people like to go offtopic with political shiz so much so, that topics that have nothing to do with politics somehow are filled with it.

And a mega political thread would keep the other ones from going off topic how?

How are we going to fix our financial system?
Really...I want to know what people think. I know what I think needs to happen (overhaul of regulatory system), but I want to know what you people think.

I think that banks need to be even more regulated. I think that the current economic crisis started at the banks.
America will never become fully socialist, but that's what it is leaning toward, with universal healthcare that no-one can afford through insurance companies that don't want to pay for medical care.
I think it's categories of american business that got us in trouble, honestly:
1. Banks
2. Insurance Companies
3. governmental regulations/policies
4. Credit Card Companies
5. Runaway spending by the government
6. Overspeculation in foreign investments.
7. The Oil Empire

I think we need less regulation. The problem started at the banks where government regulation prohibited banks from expanding unless the met a "load quota" in low income areas. NINJA loans were given out freely so banks could meet their quota and go about growing their business.
We need to stop living on credit, work for what we receive, and stop relying on big government to fix our problems. No, wait... we need to stop "allowing" big government to "fix" our problems.

Agreed. The only way the problem is going to fix itself, is through us. When the people change, the economy will change. Families making $35,000 need to realize that $350,000 house isn't going to work. People need to spend/invest 'real' money. Stop with the credit.

Agreed. People are having way too much runaway spending right now. Living way, way, way above our means. I am all for the government not affecting my life, and I think less regulation in some areas would be a great thing to have.
But then again, Obama's plan right now is probably going to make the US come out of this recession for the next four years and then the economy is going to crash when the next republican president takes over.
Then again, a lot of people profit when democrats take office. I know one of my friends have with section 8 housing. Even I am now considering getting into section 8 housing (despite the usual concerns) It's backed by the government and I am guaranteed a paycheck.

I think more regulation as far as making all financial institutions transactions more transparent is good but Bang is right, this whole mess was started back in the late 90's when the regulations were changed to try to get low income peole into houses.
They also need to take a look at how credit limits are set. I just did a quick check. I have 5 credit cards with a combined limit of over 60 grand!!! that's nuts.

Bang Guy, right as always. Seriously, how many times does having the government run anything turn out to be an efficient, intelligent process? Everytime we let them "rescue" us, we are deeper in debt, and we postpone the solution, which is letting capitolism take it's course and work the way that it should. The strong will survive, and we learn to live within our means.
