Parcells Retires...

Hey RU...do you think if a team has done nothing in 10 years...the GM should still be in that role? How about coaching hires like Switzer and Yo Yo? Would that give an nfl GM the boot from an organization?
Jones has been about as good as Mat Milen regarding any success over the past 10 years. No playoff victories.

Happens all the time in the nfl. Coaches/GM's can win and get teams to SB's then are fired. One only need look at the Cowboys tossing Landry. His time had past so they needed a change. The fact he did something in the past winning championships did not matter. That is how most nfl franchises work. If Jones was not happy with Landry...he should use the same anlysis on himself. Would he have have retained a GM that hired Switzer and Yo Yo? I doubt it.
Memories of the way we were does not cut it in the nfl in most cases.

Jones has PROVEN that with the salary cap and free agency in full bloom...he is lost. Sure, he gets a few good players, but since the nfl has progressed to the current state....he is lost.
He's had TEN years to build something...he's not even close to getting this team back to the level it was at. Saints and Jets PROVED you can turn it around in one year....SAints even made it to the championship game. Jones has had TEN years since the last playoff victory as the head GM man. He can bring players and coaches in, etc.
If one ones to point out Parcells was pulling the strings then why did Jones stick with him? If Jones was pulling the strings then he needs to analyze his ability to build a team.
Of course, when you hire such coaches as Switzer and Yo Yo what do you expect? And when you have a GM that is struggling to build a team from that point you are doomed to be mediocre.
I'm glad the washed up Jones continues on......mediocre will be a guarantee if he does not change. Sure, he had his run..but like Landry...it appears the game has past him by. He's nothing more than a hack GM in an $800 suit.
Until such time he brings in a GM that understands how to build a team in the current landscape.......we'll continue to see average play on the field out of the Cowboys. THey'll be easily forgotten each year when the season ends.

Did your relationship with Cowboys owner-general manager Jerry Jones or wide receiver Terrell Owens factor into your decision?
Parcells: No. I'll answer a couple parts of that. To the contrary, Jerry Jones and I . . . actually he's asked me to stay here an extra week to help with the transition. We have a good relationship. He's been great to me. I think very highly of him and I've enjoyed very much my experience working in this organization. And quite frankly, I've learned a lot about another way to do business. And it's an interesting thing and I think I've benefited from that experience. But I think at the end of the day this was a mental thing. Physically I know I can do it, but it's a 12-month job. Really, it's a 13-month job. There are really no days where you can relax. I'm just at the point mentally where you just don't want to undertake it again because you know what you have to do. It's another off-season, draft, mini-camp, training camp, preseason, regular season, just to kick that field goal against Seattle again. I just mentally wasn't up for it right now.
Thoughts on your relationship with Jerry Jones?

Parcells: He's a very interesting guy. I've learned a lot from being around him. I've learned a lot about the business acumen of running a pro franchise. It was much different than the approaches taken in other franchises that I worked for. But I have a good personal relationship with him. He's been very kind to me. And I've enjoyed being here in Dallas very, very much. The weather's good, the Cowboys are important and it's really a storied franchise. It really is.
Is Jones different because he's more daring?

Parcells: Oh yeah, he's definitely a risk-reward guy. There's no doubt about it. I think he's willing to take risks and take chances. They don't always work out, but some of them do. And I learned a little different approach, and really it's been fun. We were just in here laughing this afternoon about things and talking about the future, and I'm trying the best I can to help him with that. I'll be very interested and I'm anxious to see what the Cowboys do and look forward to good things for them.
Jones doesnt want a "Puppet" Jones wants to win. He is exploring ways to win , If jones wanted a puppet Parcells never would have been in town

THen your Cowboys will continue to struggle. As GM he should know HOW to win. Explorations are for guys that are young and inexperienced. It is also what GM's do once the game has past them by.
Your best solution to bring Dallas back is to bring in a GM that KNOWS how to win in the current landscape of the nfl. JOnes has no idea. he's not really moved the team much over the past 10 years. Plus, his past decisions has hindered progress after Johnson left. Parcells got the team back to the playoffs ....but they never did anything once there. So, the tem is in better shape now then when parcells arrived.
Dallas has a stronger base so Mr Wonderful l Jones should be able to get the team to the SB next year...Saints made it off a 3-13 season to nfc chanpionship.
Also, for those calling for Parcells to go...the great Jones stated publicly he wanted him back. So, how can a Dallas fan call Jones a great GM......and take shots at Parcells...a coach Jones wanted back
NOt directed at you Oceanists but just a genreal statement to those that feel Jones did somthing a decade ago....and therfore is still a top GM. He's no where close over the past 10 years.
